I just wanted to post about the game i had last night.

2vs2 Space Wolves & Dark Eldar vs Imperial Fists & Eldar 1500 Points ( 750 Each side)

I took a unit of 3 bikers wih 2 Grav guns and combi grav with a libby on a bike with Telepathy, got crappy powers, think i rolled 1 and 2 and took primaris.

Anyways it was my buddies first time playing space wolves, and he ran his wolf lord dude at my grav bikes, i over watch with the 9 shots. roll 7, 6's and get 6 wounds. he failed exactly 3 invuls to take him out. It was Epic. (first blood and slay the warlord)

Just felt like telling the good people of dakka some about some amazing lucky stuff.

Have any of you had that crazy lucky no way in hell this is gonna work but its a last ditch effort miracle happen?

A little while ago I was playing in a very tight game against a Kroot list against my Orks... He was up by 2 points if the game ended there, with the current objectives being held, plus he had first blood. We we're playing Big Guns Never Tire and on Turn 5 I managed to have 4 Shoota Boyz in range of some Kroot holding onto an objective... I rolled 8 dice, 4 hits, 3 wounds... 2 died. They failed leadership and ran towards the table edge. Game Ended on a roll of one.

I'm painting those 4 brave Boyz different from the rest so they will never be forgotten.

Reminds me of my deftcoptas assaulting my buddies squad of tac marines where i just obliterated them with rokkits 1 sergeant and a lonely tac marine remained i killing the tac marine he kill a def copter with the sergeant. I lose combat by one, Fail leadership and that lone sergeant sweeps the sqaud, Ouch.

He then repainted with tallies on the shoulder haha.

How in the world did you roll 6, 7s? No wonder you killed him with overwatch you've got d7s!

Well, there was the time a GK Strike Squad led by an Inquisitor assaulted my Dominions... five melta shots (Canoness with an inferno pistol in the squad) killed two GK and the Inquisitor on Overwatch, then the Canoness killed the Justicar with her chainsword.

Once again I recall my PK nob slaying a full health DP in a challenge... good times man

I had a lone, retreating Dark eldar warrior manage to rally on double ones and return to stand around in the open for a round.

On my opponents turn he charged a Librarian into my brave kabalite. The Dark Eldar warrior snapped off two shots from his splinter rifle and hit twice. The poison rounds did their work and wounded twice.

The librarian didn't make it.


After such heroics I painted the phrase 'Too legit to quit' on the Kabalite warrior's base.

However the reason he had no squad is because a single shot from his rocket launcher killed the other 4 vets plus one tac marine

My worst overwatch horror story was when an IG infantry squad down to 2 guys (1 with melta) managed to pass a Ld test on 1,1, and then got charged by my decked out SM captain with over 100 points of Relic items. He pops the 2++ just to be sure, and then overwatch is rolled. Melta: 6 to hit. 2 to wound. Save: 1.

200 points of Warlord (and a KP) down the drain from a guardsmen who cost less that his gun, If I hadn't won that game 14-3 it would have been painful.

I remember the look on my friends face when I killed 3/5 terminators with 35 Autogun Cultists + 2 Flamers on Overwatch... He was not amused. Sometimes the stars align and things like this happen. He also ended up failing his charge due to the front models dying. Then rolled a bad Ld Check, ended up running away. So I actually chased him down with cultists...

AGAIN. Sometimes these things happen! lol Not saying they should, but by golly when they do!

I've never had anything big happen, but I've had small stuff happen all the time. There have been several failed charges I've seen thanks to overwatch. If the models have 1.25" coherency, and the diameter of a model's base is 1" (for small bases), that often means that killing a single model in overwatch means he needs to roll THREE higher on his charge range to still get the charge in.

When such a tiny event can make that big of a difference in a zero-sum event, yeah, overwatch is a bigger deal than I feel people give it credit for some times.

I had a 100 point Vet Squad in a small points game, my opponent had a flying hive tyrant come near them and I fired the melta guns at it. I hit it once with the meltas, wounded it, grounded it and wounded it again, and then he went into combat with my dudes and I wounded it once with return attacks after it killed my squad down to 4 men.

They fled, rallied and in overwatch on a second charge, finished it off with a lasgun shot.

I also had one Tactical Squad in a game kill a Hormagaunt brood of 6-7 in overwatch in the early turns and later kill a heavily wounded Tervigon in overwatch later.

I actually often get jammy luck in my overwatch when it matters for almost nothing, and then the rest of my luck that game will suck.

I think about a third of the casualties in my group's kill team games have been from overwatch.

Wait, what? How could you take all 4 of his wounds? You only had 3 attacks (presuming you charged).

I remember when we had the mini daemon update, one of the local cocky tournament grey knight players took me on, naturally I spammed flamers
I got lucky and they all arrived turn one, so I plopped down and decimated a chunk of his units.
In his turn he failed to kill much with shooting (2 wounds, invuln is nice) then with a really arrogant look on his face declared his charges and said "template weapons can't overwatch"
Ah but flame templates can WHOOOOOSH!!!!!!'

Lots of dead grey knights, finished off in combat

Turn two most of my pink horrors arrived and I table him (his stormraven never arrived)

Vet sergeant 2 attacks base, 2 weapons, charged. 4 attacks

I had a Scout behind a Defence Line weather 3 turns of shooting by 11 Lootas, a Big Mek with Shokk Attack Gun, and 2 Killa Kanz. He was my last model other than my not-Celestine, he lived to the end, and he held the 4-point objective and won the game for me.

Isn't a power fist a specialist weapon?

Exactly, it doesn't matter if you have a bolt pistol, since the power fist is specialist, he would have lived. You cheated him out of a daemon prince.

I don't remember the details of this story much because it was like my fourth game, but the guy I was playing knew what he was doing and assured me that what happened was legit.

Basically, I charged some space wolves with 9 Khorne Berzerkers and Kharn the Betrayer. Kharn killed some character with a frost blade or something, meanwhile his squad gets wrecked. Kharn proceeds to destroy the space wolves next turn. THEN, he gets charged by 3 Thunderwolf Cavalry and kills them all. My Heldrake mops up any troops left on the table and that's a rap, lol.

Unless the challenge was done over more than one round, of course.

Nah it sounds like he 'swept' him in one round.

I don't really have any stories of amazing Overwatches...

I've killed a Lord of Change with full wounds with a single Wraithcannon hit 3 times now - does that count?

I had a really good overwatch today. I enfeebled a hive tyrant, had monster hunters up - hit for 8 AP5 wounds. I did enough AP1/2 to kill him outright, but he had endurance and everything.

So he saves *every* AP1/2 wound, then proceeds to fail exactly 5 pulse carbine rounds, and fail exactly 5 feel no pain rolls.

Yes you are right, he only gets 3 attacks but i killed him over 2 rounds of combat, meaning i got 6 attacks i only failed one of them

I cannot fathom how you beat a daemon prince with a sergeant over 2 rounds of combat.

Yes you are right, he only gets 3 attacks but i killed him over 2 rounds of combat, meaning i got 6 attacks i only failed one of them

You would have only gotten 5 attacks total since you didnt charge the second round of combat (unless daemon princes or sargeants somehow got hit and run overnight then lost it the next day)

I just have to call BS on that. I just do not see you killing a daemon prince over 2 rounds of combat while striking last with a sergeant.

I agree, this seems very fishy since you would need to hit with all but one of them on a 5+, then you would have to not roll a single one to wound (believable), he would have to fail all his invuls, and on top of that he would have to roll all 1s and 2s to hit on his 5 attack daemon prince TWICE IN A ROW or at least roll 1s to wound which seems equally unlikely

Well, here's a wonderful Overwatch story for you.

Fifteen Flayed Ones assault a unit of ten Repentia. The Mistress overwatches with a krak grenade. Hits. Wounds. AP4 vs Flayed one.. Flayed One goes down. Flayed Ones fail charge as a result.

Flayed Ones get slaughtered by Penitent Engine heavy flamers next turn.

For once, I was not the Sisters player. :(
