Are orks vegetarian friendly?

As in if you killed an ork would the fungus spores or other such be safe to eat for a vegetarian? or vegan?

And would an ork taste like a fungus or would it be more meaty? as they seem to be a hybrid of both.

A friend asked me this question I was just wondering what your opinions were?

I'd say vegetarian, not vegan though

I would strongly advise against eating Ork Spores.

As Psienesis, not a good idea to eat Orks. The spores have a chance of developing, and if hardy enough, you could have a squig burst from your stomach or intestines. Fungal infection on steroids with death available.

Well vegetarians often say that they don't eat anything with a face and Orks do have faces...

I don't think humans could eat an ork though and not get sick. I always thought of them being toxic in that regard.

Perhaps they are made up of plant proteins so that they can have flesh, muscle and internal organs instead of animal proteins. Their DNA could be plant based ie fungus based but it still allows them to have flesh bodies. Therefore, they have bodies similar to animal species but their core DNA is plant based making them suitable for vegetarians.

The real problem comes after you've eaten the Ork. If your digestive system does not destroy all the spores, well, your city sewer system is a perfect breeding ground for Orks.

Give it six months to a year, and then all of a sudden a Waaagh! boils up out of the ground in town, like a super-violent TMNT nightmare.

I think there was some word of a hybrid species, so kind of both I guess. I don't think ork is poisonous, except for snakebites but the the taste may not be too great.

... at the end of the day, I don't believe Orks are vegan or vegetarian-friendly. They bleed and that meat is muscle, and probably not even white meat.

Orks are edible. I imagine something like gamey pork crossed with mushroom.

If it's "gamey", then it's meat, and thus the answer is "no".

Stranded, alone, surrounded by your dead friends after fighting off an ork attack. You dont know where you are, your rations are low, your imperial primer says move forward, before you go you decide to check your buddies rations, none of which is left.

Do you slice some of your friends "meat" and move on, or slice some ork flesh and take that with you... (or starve)

The OP also asked: 'And would an ork taste like a fungus or would it be more meaty?' so I answered this question and in terms of taste whether or not ork is 'gamey' does not make it meat absolutely as you assert.

Since orks are variously described as an animal/fungi hybrid then no, they are not suitable for vegetarians/vegans. Some other orkoid life forms may well be though.
