I've gotten into 40k and want to start a 500 point army. I have a small chaos force from dark vengeance which I will be letting my friend play. I like the look of the blood angels and would like to start a new 500 point army. I don't want to spend loads of money, around $100 or so. I REALLY like sanguinary guard , death company, and the Sanguinor (but hes way too expensive for 500 points) so if you can include them that would be cool. Thanks for the help.

Well dc and saguinary guard to much points for 500. Go with assault squad, Libby, sanguine priest, and scout. This just one way. There several other ways to roll with this. Not sure what your goal is. BA is not competitive. I play them because I like the story line. And play to have fun.

I agree that sang guard and and the Sanguinor are too expensive but there's a pretty decent 500pt DC list.

It basically revolves around a Reclusiarch, 7 or so DC (can't remember if there's a hammer in there or not..) and a DC dread. Comes to exactly 500pt if you equip it right (don't have my dex on me at the moment).

Of course you can't score but at 500 it's pretty easy to table your opponent with that list

for 500 point i would not use DC: they are too expensive
also sanguinary guard are expensive and not really effective (but i bought the miniatures 'cause are cool u_u )

you can buy DC with jump pack miniatures, paint them on red and arrange them as assault marine (or just procy them) if you like to keep opportunities open. I would go for many assault marines with jump pack, a librarian (not epistolary, lvl1 is good enough). If you can afford their point cost sanguinary priest are also useful for jump-running assault marines.
baal predator, dreadnaught, and stormraven are too expensive for 500 points so at the moment i'll stay on troops and libby.

ps: as stated previously: BA is not competitive, is very expensive (point wise) compared to SM and got no fancy new item from 6th. In addiction, change in assault and veichle make them even less effective. There is no news about a 6th edition codex so maybe we will never get one...
However, if you play for fun, they are funny. Don't expect to win a lot of matches, not against tau, eldar or necron...

I purely had DC up as OP wanted to include 'em. Imo, the best BA list at 500 is libby (force axe but otherwise barebones), 2x 5 assault marines in razorbacks, one squad w meltagun and a Baal w hvy bolter sponsons. That's 500pts exactly and can take pretty much any list a that points level (provided they're not ridiculously cheesy and/or WAAC)

This is a 500 Point army I play:

Libby-100 (Your Choice of powers)

ASM in Razorback w/ Las/Plas-155
ASM in Razorback w/ Las/Plas-155
Scout Squad w/ Camo Cloaks and Sniper Rifles-90

I'm just playing with my brother and a friend which i'm trying to get into the hobby. Competitiveness is defiantly not a concern. If BA aren't good in small games because of points cost, which army is? I want something not ridiculously expensive or with multiple vehicles.

Ah. Well nearly all my 500 lists have around 3 vehicles.... Try tau:

Fireblade (60)
2x 6 FW (108)
Hammerhead - submunition rounds, Longstrike (175)
5 Pathfinders (55)
ADL - quad-gun (100)

Total (497)

There's only one vehicle in that, not too expensive to buy (only need 4 kits plus the Fireblade if you proxy longsight)

Here would be my suggested 500 point Blood Angels List! Relatively cheap to buy. If you are willing to proxy only two models, I assume you can if your just playing with a brother!

x10 Assault Squad (225 pts)
-2 meltas

x5 Sniper Scout squad (100 pts)
-1 Rocket Launcher

Have your Sanguinary priest join the Assault Squad and have them rush up and just get into CC. The meltas can take care of any vehicles.
Snipers camp back. If your brother brings cultists use Frag missiles. Krak against anything tough. Then have your captain stay in cover near your scouts and shoot at anything that comes near.
Might not be the best list, but it should get the job done. Keep in mind I choice cost over efficiency. If you want to opt for a very strong list you will need to shell out more $ in most scenarios.

Yay, four attacks with Chainsword in case someone assaults your Scouts!!!
Librarian is better because of the free force weapon.

Either have him with Scouts to give them precience, or give him Shield of Sanguinius and Wings of Sanguinius (who named these...?) and let him tag along your ASM.
A 5+ cover for half of your army.

The only reason I suggested a Captain was because if he is going for a 500 point army he is most likely using combat patrol rules, at least I assume. The combat patrol rules hinder Psychic abilities by quite a bit. But I do agree, the Captain would be a waste. The issue with Space Marine HQs is they lack a cheap option. 1/5 of your army on a single model. Eck.
