I've painted up some of my Dreadfleet bases but am having a hard time figuring out the best way to varnish/finish them. A glossy varnish makes a wet appearance but almost looks too shined and obscures some of the details. The matte varnish turns out a little too dull and doesn't really add anything. I've only used the varnish on the two round bases in the front, I have the other bases to show what I want to use these finishes on next.

Has anyone used glossy varnish for the deep waters and then the matte for the waves or peaks? Thanks for any guidance and advice!

Have you tried Satin Varnish it's a happy medium between the 2 ?
