Space Marine Scout with Sniper Rifle
|
Hi
This is only my 2nd post and hopefully it's one that can help me become a decent painter.
I plan on making a Steel Confessors space marine army and i'm going to start by buying a tactical squad. But first I would like some advice and tips on what type of paints I should buy, what techniques I should use and so on and so forth. If you have painted or know someone who has painted Steel Confessors, it would be very much appreciated if you could give some tips on how you/he/she painted them. I have only ever painted 5 space marine models that were included in the 40k paint set, but that was a while ago. All types of advice is also appreciated, and if you have not heard of the Steel Confessors, there should be a link below.

My local store painted a load of these for the Games Day mega battle (remember them?).
Armour was mithril silver mixed with a spot of blue ink for a blued steel armour.
Bleached bone shoulderpads, chestplate and kneepads
Grey trim on shoulderpads.
Done.
Obviously chop and change colours for their "modern" equivalents.
FWIW the big Space Marine in the lobby of Warhammer World is painted in Steel Confessor colours.
Looking at a few images the shoulderpad trim is based on company. I seem to remember my store doing the assault company, so other companies might have a different trim (a la Ultramarines).

I did see someone paint Steel Confessors using Ironbreaker and that looked pretty good but I'll definitely check out the paints you guys suggested. If I reckon they look good enough i may post a picture of them . I just have to order them now.
Thanks
Another thing, If anyone can link a good tutorial on how to paint space marine faces and/or green eye lenses as well as the paints used for them, that would be great.
Cheers

They sound like a cool chapter! May I ask why you chose this particular one?
I personally paint Silver Skulls and use Leadbelcher and Nuln Oil to paint them. Then Drybrush with Necron Compound. It's really easy to paint but might be a bit darker than what you are looking for (got pictures in my gallery if you want to see for yourself). You could try Ironbreaker which is considerably lighter. However, Ironbreaker is a 'Layer' paint, so you might have trouble applying it directly onto a black undercoat. I'd suggest that you get your hands on a few cheap SM models (e.g. the pack of three GW sells) and try out a few techniques/combinations until you're happy.
For painting tutorials on just about anything, youtube (and the dakka tutorial section) is your friend!
Hope this helps!

Thanks for the tips
Those Silver Skulls look wicked , I was considering painting them as I thought the color scheme looked pretty cool.
I chose the Steel Confessors as they have pretty cool fluff and as they're not a very well known chapter that you see a lot (at least on the internet) and the idea that the imperium was never supposed to know about them was really cool to me.
Also I do plan on buying the three pack as spending $52 on space marines and them not looking the way I wanted them to would be really annoying, and it'd be helpful as i'm not the best painter and want them to look as good as i possibly can
I hope my Steel Confessors can look as good as you're Silver Skulls in terms of quality .
P.S. Has anyone have any experience with Formula P3 blue ink as my store doesn't have any games workshop blue ink.
Cheers

I have to admit I hadn't heard of them before, but judging by what Grimtuff said they hadn't gone completely unnoticed. Their fluff does sound interesting, though.
Glad you like my models .
I don't have any experience with the ink you mentioned, but if you want the GW one you can always order it online.
Are you planning to post pictures of your models once you start pinging them?

Yeah, they were the main guys at Games Day in 2005 I think, but GW has completely forgot about them since then, even though they have some of the most interesting fluff in my eyes.
I would've bought the GW ink from another store but I wanted everything to come in one package when it arrived,so I just ordered the P3 blue ink.
and I will post some pics as soon as i get them, but probably on the P&M Blog thread as that's where i think it belongs so keep an eye out for that when it comes around(most likely the weekend if the package isn't late)
Cheers
