With a due nod to Dannicus who started a thread in the X Wing forum, I thought this could use a N+R thread

We're looking at our options, including HeroClix, for future releases. We can confirm that we are doing an Dungeons & Dragons Attack Wing game, which will use the same game engine as Star Trek: Attack Wing.

Our Attack Wing D&D game will be configured very much like our Star Trek: Attack Wing game, with a box set and stand alone visible figures.

Unfortunately, we can't give more detail than to say that it will have a similar product configuration to our Star Trek: Attack Wing game. We'll be revealing a bunch of information about our D&D Attack Wing game at the GAMA trade show in Las Vegas this March. Stay Tuned!

So, they found a bunch of dragon clix that they didn't know what to do with?

Meh. It's an alright beer & pretzels system, with an interesting movement mechanic. This will be the third game using the same system, it's really getting old for me.

I think it's an incredibly fun game. I just don't need to play it in multiple slightly different ways.
X-wing covers it for me.
A fantasy version does make sense though I suppose.

Well, my understanding is that Attack Wing plays somewhat differently to X Wing, which in turn plays very differently to Wings Of War/Glory (who are the progenitors of the system, it's more than the third using the same base mechanics) so there is plenty of scope to make it feel different.

If they go the Dragonlance route, you have the different colours of good and evil dragons as the 'ships' and then you can have all sorts of D+D flavoured classes as riders (who might be tied to a specific colour, a la X Wing, or separate as in Attack Wing) as well as plenty of named characters.

I'd probably try a starter, as not being a Trek fan I haven't sampled this variant yet, but I think this has the potential to be a lot of fun.

That would get a pile of my money. Like, enough for me to buy two sides, and make my buddy that loves X-wing play the fantasy version.

Wow, I still have my rules of air to air dragon combat with wizard mounts that I based of the Fight in the Skies/Dawn patrol system that I wrote in the early 80's using some Dragon Quest(SPI) magic system... Just find this interesting.
I do like Xwing however

If they were dragons and riders of the same quality as x-wing, then I'd be all over it. If its badly scaled, poorly sculpted junk then I'll pass, even if I do love dragons and dragonlance. I know where my bet is going in terms of quality.

This has some real potential. Attack wing is superior to x wing and if they learn and get better with each version, this could be VERY cool...

Having only played X-wing, how would you say Attack Wing is superior?

From my experience X-wing has more of a dogfight feel where the emphasis is on ship upgrades. Attack wing is about the crew options that has more effect on die rolls or disabling other ship upgrades. Both use the same basic mechanics but the execution is different.

In relation to a Dragon version, if they do have riders with this fantasy setting. It would be nice having a mix or dragon, rider and magic upgrades to give it a different feel. Think if Dragonlance theme was involved they could pull in some serious interest simply from nostalgia.

At least the fifth. Wings of War/Glory, Aeronautica Imperialis, X-Wing, and Attack Wing.

Ok, so I missed a couple. I was unimpressed with the mechanic after playing two of the games... How does having two more games using the same system make my point any less valid?

Wait, Aeronautica used this system as well?

Man, what I wouldn't give for FFG to come out with a 40k themed game with 1/270 planes.

I would think Wizkidz of all gaming companies would know the value of making new figures in a different setting fully compatible with tier existing game. They spent years flailing away with different clix systems that were essentially the same anyways only to finally realize that it'd all work a lot better if everything just used the same Heroclix system exactly and was all compatible. I would LOVE to see dragons vs enterprise vs millenium falcon. Love it.

Aeronautica Imperialis used a similar system. Closer to Wings of Glory/War than X-Wing - but where WoG uses auto attacks and damage cards AI used die rolls and traditional damage.

BTW - If we're going to call all of these games part of the "same system" you might as well also lump in Blue Max and Check Your 6.
