We're going to be having a tournament at the end of the month and I'm wanting to bring my new Wall of Martyrs to the table. What I'm looking for is what lists should I look out for and i'm still 95 points low, so how should I fill in the blank.
HQ
Company Command Squad w/ Astropath and Officer of the Fleet
Troops
Veteran Squad w/ x3 Plasma Guns
Infantry Platoon
Platoon Command Squad w/ x3 Melta Guns
Infantry Squad w/ Lascannon
Infantry Squad w Lascannon
Infantry Squad w/ Lascannon
Heavy Weapons Team w/ Heavy Bolters
Heavy Weapons Team w/ Heavy Bolters
Special Weapons Team w/ Melta Guns
Fast Attack
x2 Vendetta Gunships
Valkyrie Assault Carrier w/ Heavy Bolters
Valkyrie Assault Carrier w/ Heavy Bolters
Fortification
Wall of Martyrs Defense Network
Firestorm Redoubt w/ x2 Punisher Gatling Cannons, Ammo Store and Machine Spirit
Imperial Bunker w/ Quadgun and Ammo Store
Defense Line
Defense Emplacement
x2 Vengeance Weapons Batteries w/ Quad Icarus Lascannons
When I set up the only things on the table are the Wall of Martyrs, the Company Command Squad and the Infantry Platoon's Infantry Squads (blobbed up) and Heavy Weapon Teams. The Special Weapon Team, Platoon Command Squad and the Veterans come in riding the Valkyries and Vendettas. To place the Defense Network, I put the Emplacement in the middle, a single length of defense line to either side and the bunker/redoubt on the ends. The Heavy Weapon Teams go in the Bunker/Redoubt and the Blob's Lascannons go in the emplacement with the rest of the blob in and behind the defense line. I hide the Company Command Squad in the Infantry Squad Blob for Go to Ground/Get Back in the Fight fun. Right now I'm thinking of using the last 95 points to add in another Special Weapons Team and to put Flamers into the Blob. Thoughts, Ideas, subtle slights...let me hear from you.

I may be wrong on that one but I thought in standard games you would only be allowed a single fortification per force organisation chart?
I guess the wall of martyrs falls in this category even though there are lots of small elements in it, but adding a bastion and defense line, I doubt that's allowed?
Still new to the game though and I haven't yet received my rulebook, I just have my codex, but I recall someone already having that argument. Otherwise I guess you could go for it,
Doesn't lascannnon suffer from standard IS ballistic skill? most people seem to field autocannons for that reason, and you already have 6 twin-linked lascannon shots with vendettas.
Let me know how that wall of martyrs works out, I am curious about how good it can be compared to a more mobile/mech force.

The new strongholds let you take bunches of fortifications but doesn't let you mix the wall of martyr's stuff with the bastion/ aegis stuff.

Yes you can only take one fortification at a time, that is still true. With the Stronghold Assault codex you can purchase "Network" fortifications, such as the Wall of Martyrs Imperial Defense Network or the Imperial Strongpoint. The networks have minimum requirements to field, such as the Wall of Martyrs requires 1+ defense line, 1+ emplacement, and 1+ bunker; and has a list of other "parts" you can also take, 0-2 Firestorm Redoubt and/or 0-2 Vengeance Weapon Batteries. You can then upgrade the parts. If you can, you should at least look into the book, as it has changed the way some of the fortifications will work, especially with the new upgrades. Example: With the new "Ready for Take Off" upgrade to the Skyshield Landing Pad, you can start with a hover type Flyer on the board.

Stronghold assaults really cool, it's a shame the internet hate for escalation overshadowed the other book released at the same time which really expands on fortifications.
It's a solid list, personally it find lascannons in infantry squads to be too pricey, It also means often you won't be shooting the rest of the squad.
I'd go with anti infantry style weapons in there so you aren't wasting the shot potential of the squad.
Lascannons on the weapons teams are ok if you get them nicely bunkered

Really interesting then! I was wondering though, about the tactical advantage of fielding lots of defensive points. In Stronghold Assault siege type mission, does one have to defend and the other one has to attack? The question may seems silly, but in the advent that two adversies load up on fortifications, I was wondering if that could lead the game to a stalemate if no one wants to risk an assault. Have you played any game with that list previous to the tournament?
Sorry for trolling I just haven't heard much about that codex and am wondering if I might be interested in it. Let us know how your list works, I love fortifications.
