Hey Dakka

It's been forever since I last logged on but I thought I would post some of the pics of my new dakkajet I have been working on. I got an airbrush for Christmas and have been loving it. I decided to push my abilities a bit further and try and do some stencil work. It came out reasonably well but I still need some practice. Here is my Dakka Jet / Burna Bommer flamin' red with flame decals for extra coolness.

And here is a close up of the rust effect I have been working on. The new effect paints from GW are really really cool!

In case you are interested here is my recipe for rust effects

1) Basecoat Leadbelcher over a black primer.
2) Stipple on large blobs of Hashut Copper or equivalent (whatever color you want the metal to be). This gives it an older look and makes it look less pristine in the later steps.
3) Wash with Gryphonne Sepia. This makes the metal look a bit oily and burned.
4) Wash with a heavy layer of Nuln Oil. This makes it look slick and grimy with oil. Also makes the recesses of the stippled on metal pop out more, giving the metal some texture.
5) Once the washes are totally dry add as much Tyohus Corrosion as you see fit. I thinned mine down with just a little bit of water to help it spread better.
6) Drybrush patches of Rhyza Rust on the larger panels and recesses where rust would gather first.
7) (optional) Dry brush / edge highlight with leadbelcher on the raised areas and corners etc for a chipping effect.

It takes a bit of time to dry out but it's not very delicate or difficult and you can crank it out. I think it's worth the effort.

Let me know what you think of the flames, paint, and rust effects.

I like it, maybe go back to the red areas inbetween the flame and cover up the extra yellow spray over? Its up to you really but thats my one notice. Great rust btw and thanks for the TUT on how to do it!

I noticed the overspray as well, but I think it's not that big of an issue considering you painted flames... One could consider it a glow

The paintjob overall looks good, nice even coat of red. The red does like a little flat though. Your airbrush would be great for shading that red!

Keep up the good work

Inboud...

To be honest, I thought the overspray 'glow' effect was intentional- looks great IMO!

Thanks for the rust tips too, will have to try out that recipe.

Thanks for the comments I tried to do the red outline because the "overspray" made it look a but too soft for an Ork vehicle. I might outline that again with red or orange or something. I do sort of like the glow though.

I am glad the rust effect tutorial has been helpful!

For the second plane I am thinking of doing a checkered pattern on the wings. What do you guys think?

Yes! Checks look awesome, and the glow is a cool now that I look at it as glow and not over spray.

At last it is finally done! I know it was a quick WIP but I just got in the zone today and finished it off without taking pics along the way. The cockpits proved to be really fun and challenging to paint. Here he is, the dakka jet / burna bommer ready to go. WAAGH!!

Here it is before I glued the glass on so you can see the pilot suitably drunk on mushroom beer and adrenaline. Dakka! Dakka! Dakka! And I managed to finagle it so that I can take the cockpit off if necessary.

Battle Damage - Usually I don't like to add this sort of stuff but there was a weird paint peel when I took the stencil off so I had to cover that up. Some good flakk hits did the trick!

If you have any comments or questions they are more than welcome! WAAGH!!
