Hey Dakka
It's been forever since I last logged on but I thought I would post some of the pics of my new dakkajet I have been working on. I got an airbrush for Christmas and have been loving it. I decided to push my abilities a bit further and try and do some stencil work. It came out reasonably well but I still need some practice. Here is my Dakka Jet / Burna Bommer flamin' red with flame decals for extra coolness.
And here is a close up of the rust effect I have been working on. The new effect paints from
GW are really really cool!
In case you are interested here is my recipe for rust effects
1) Basecoat Leadbelcher over a black primer.
2) Stipple on large blobs of Hashut Copper or equivalent (whatever color you want the metal to be). This gives it an older look and makes it look less pristine in the later steps.
3) Wash with Gryphonne Sepia. This makes the metal look a bit oily and burned.
4) Wash with a heavy layer of Nuln Oil. This makes it look slick and grimy with oil. Also makes the recesses of the stippled on metal pop out more, giving the metal some texture.
5) Once the washes are totally dry add as much Tyohus Corrosion as you see fit. I thinned mine down with just a little bit of water to help it spread better.
6) Drybrush patches of Rhyza Rust on the larger panels and recesses where rust would gather first.
7) (optional) Dry brush / edge highlight with leadbelcher on the raised areas and corners etc for a chipping effect.
It takes a bit of time to dry out but it's not very delicate or difficult and you can crank it out. I think it's worth the effort.
Let me know what you think of the flames, paint, and rust effects.
