So I have wanted to play the LOTR game since the first Starter Set came out. I had bought one with lawn mowing money when it came out but never got around to playing. I have no clue where my goblins and elves from that set went. Any who I was wondering if LOTR is a good side game. Is it a major battle type game like the Warhammers or is it more skirmish level?

Also if I start playing I want to play as Rohan how well do they run?

Were there be dragons....

Lord of the Ring is skirmish/scenario gaming.
War of the Ring is Big Battles and a 10 times better system in my opinion. The trade of is you also need about 10 times the models.

Welcome to LOTR miniature wargaming first of all! Secondly as mentioned above the game is skrismishbased and thus flows much, much better than lets say Hail Caeasre or WHFB. you do not need a insanly high number of modles, and all the armies more or less can do well if played correctly.

Onto your army selection, Rohan is definitly a good army, you have silly good cavalry, and suprsigly decent foot troops too. And heaps of ranged weapons to make the life of your foes far less pleasent.
I suggest that you get the source book and then come back with what you would like to field. Also remeber that you can bring any good army to figth by your side as allies. So Elfs & Rohan is definitly doable and hard hitting too migth I add-
