I'm doing a 500pt game on Saturday with Space Wolves and as stated in the topic it will be my first time trying them out. I was hoping to get some help with the list I want to take.

HQ:
Rune Priest: Runic Armour, Rune Axe, Master of Runes, Chooser of the Slain, Wolf tooth necklace, ~JOTWW and Storm Caller~

Troops:
Grey Hunters x5: Melta, Drop pod

Grey Hunters x5: Plasma gun, Drop pod

Elites:
Lone Wolf: Frost Axe, Storm Shield

I plan to take the plasma gun team out of their pod and have the lone Wolf start in it (read on here somewhere about someone doing that) and drop him in first turn if there's no vehicles. If there is ill drop in the melta guys first and deal with that then bring him in.

The plasma team and the librarian unfortunately will be foot slogging it but I figured I could use the pods and terrain to block LoS until they get in range.

What you guys think?

500 points plays on a 4x4 board, yes?

First off, i do not think you can place that lone wolf in the pod. Correct me if I am wrong but there is just no rules justification for it.

If you do play on a smaller board, Drop pods become really unnecessary. I think a rhino is more flexible and much better in this case. A Razorback would be even better and the points are still decent in that codex. Points are likely tight so Rhinos will do.

I have a love /hate relationship with anything green.

I don't think you need the Runic Armor, but I would take it becouse it is cool.
The Axe is nice on the Lone Wolf, though unless you have bad luck with it think about Mark of the Wolf.

Master of Runes is fairly innefective on a Rune Priest, as is a Wolftooth Necklace. He can't use Storm Caller on the turn he arrives in the pod, and after a couple turns it likely won't matter anyways. So, you're spending 50 points for one turn of 5+ cover.
If you foot slog (Which you shouldn't, if you want the most out of JotWW,) then you should be able to get cover fairly easily from other sources.

Why a Frost Axe over a Power Fist? With a Storm Shield you don't even get another attack for having two close combat weapons. You literally get no penalties and +2 Strength by taking a Power Fist.

At 500 points, Drop Pods en masse aren't needed. Taking 1 might be useful, but two is over the top. (As a rule, Drop Pods are best when taken in odd numbers.)

At the 500 points level yes MoR is not that useful, but I have found it very worth it at the 1750+ Range unless you are SPAMing Rune Priest.

i like it i thinkpersonally that blood claws are realy cool because with 60 attacks on a charge you will most likely wipe any unit you touch. Just something to consider for the future

oh! right, I ate old one eye first turn with Jaws, Lone Wolf CCd for 4 turns with a clump of gaunts and Crons who teleported in and survived till the end of the 4th turn

RP and hunters did well, my plasma gun got hot and blew up :/ but other than that, it was too spread out to do much in the short time we had to play
