Hi all,

Thought I would start a blog on my Imperial Guard army as I have a lot of WIP stuff that I would like to share.

First off this army started as a second non serious force and was going to be just 1000pts so my brother inlaw and I could run through the Doom of Mymeara campaign. As you will soon find out it has now grown some what!

OK wind your clock back to Christmas 2012, this little lot arrived from GW

As a bit of a breather from painting a lot of red I squeezed in a Leman Russ







And started on a Shadow Sword



Soon after this we bought a bigger house and a I didn't get round to taking more shots of the stuff as they were being painted.

Here is how they looked before the basing started









After a weekend of basing, some fresh paint on an old Valkyrie and some Forge World Thallax Cohort (count as Orgyans) this is how they look now

Now for the more recent stuff.

I have learnt a few tricks over the last few months and decided to update the shadow sword. I hadn't got around to using any weathering powders on the tank and all I had done so far was to sponge a bit of weathering around the edges. I though a big brute like this should have a few bigger scratches.

At the same time I had a box of these guys waiting to for some paint





They are not all finished so more on them later.





To add to my pile of things to do I currently have 2 squads in boxes, 6 lascannon teams and a few special weapon troopers



Also by popular demand I have a Preator awaiting painting and 10 Mechanicus Thralls











Thats it for the time being, the thralls and Preator are primed and ready to paint. I hope tomorrow night I can base the first heavy weapon team and special weapons.

This weeks objective is to get the Thralls painted and based and to finish off the rough riders.

I have a game in March and really want to try out the guard

Awesome work though mate, I especially like the weathering on the super heavy and the valk, very well done indeed.

Nice! Vostroyans are awesome. Shame they are so expensive, otherwise I would have gotten an army of them. Nice paintjob, the group shot looks impressive.

Now that is an impressive start, I wonder how you'll follow that up.

Vostroyans are one of my favorites and I'm looking forward to see what you do with the mechanicus thralls, so Consider me subscribed.

Tonight I finished off the Rough Riders still got to make a banner for them and get a spear arm off ebay....plus base







Also made a start on the Thralls.

Still some work to do on the pipes and skin tone, trying to get a slightly dead skin look. Bit like the Borg

Managed to get a bit more done tonight, most of the basing is complete hope to make good progress over the weekend

Should also have a macro lense for my new DSLR so I can get better photos, for some reason the colour comes out a bit pink on my phone!

Looking good. But may i suggest adding some highlights? especially on the red? It will make the models (and the red) pop.

The red is highlighted but then dulled down with a glaze, the camera dosn't seem to catch it that well as it tends to wash out the colours :(

New lense should be here soon so can get better shots then.

Didn't get as much done as I had hoped this weekend didn't rain today so spent some of it getting stuff sorted in the garage.

Got two squads primed and ready for painting though so the troops are mounting up!

Thralls are very nearly done, just final highlights to go.

Well had another busy weekend and a few evenings! Apologies for some of the photos, got a DSLR recently and still trying to work out the colour balance. It dosnt like the red and bronze together and seems to make the bronze more orange than it really is.


Got the Lascannon teams sorted Saturday night and started on the special weapons.















With the special weapons done I made a start on the troopers Sunday evening so far I have got 6 done in total and still 8 left from these 2 squads.





My brother inlaw just gave me a late birthday present as I havent seen him in a while.



So that's the remains of squad 3. I have until Saturday to finish 16 dudes lol think I am going to be fielding some guys with full winter camo.

These are some really, really awesome models in such a short space of time! I'm very jealous.

Been cleaning up the office for most of the evening so we can set up the gaming table over the weekend.

Whilst going through my old bits box I found this chap looking all sorry for himself





As I am using the Thralls as storm troopers they will need a leader so thought he will do as an acting NCO.

Been painting some FoW King Tigers and working on a Trygon I have as painting all this red was getting to me lol.

I have done a little more work on squads 1 & 2 plus some reinforcements arrived.





Just couldnt leave it closed could I!

Currently putting the barebones together so I can paint all the plates seperately. I will be going for a Yellow/Red/Black theme to tie in with the Vostoryans and Mechanicus.

I've got a soft spot for Vostroyans..
How are those Ad Mech models? Did they require a lot of straightening?

They were perfect for the most part, think 1 of the Thralls needed a very slight bend.

I think the only FW model I have had a lot of problems with was the Thunderhawk (would have to be the most expensive lol) but I think that was down to old moulds and was nothing I couldn't fix.

Not updated this for a few days, seem to get into the grove and forget to post pics!

Assembled the rest of the knight over the weekend and got it primed in black and white.







Started to paint up the armor plates







Its going to have a mix of diamonds and stripes although I am not the best at free hand so using some masking tape and a spray can

The Knight is nearly finished, just waiting for the store in town to get some more paints in as I ran out of black :(

Whilst I have been waiting for the paint to arrive I have also started to base the preator and work on the interior.

Wow, that knight it looking awesome. Great work on the paint job.

I feel your camera pain, I bought a nice new camera to try and take photos of my models but I just can't get it figured out and I end up getting better photos using a camera phone.

I have done some more work on the interior.

Also changed my lamp to an LED one, I found my old one was drying out the newer citadel paints :( Plus it was a rather dirty light making colours look odd in photos.

The warning decals are from a 1/35 (I think) scale harrier kit, I used the sheets whilst making my Thunderhawk.

Work on the preator is coming along nicely. The hull is all together and the launcher is in place. This wasn't as easy as I thought it would be! But happy with the way it turned out.

Had a disaster with one track, I masked the area off to pain the unit markings and the sodding masking tape pulled all the paint off including the primer :( I was able to peel the rest off with my fingers.

I guess that area wasn't cleaned as well as the rest.



Managed to seal the resin with a bit of gloss varnish and all is well again

Bravo sir! I am doing a similar army to yours with DKOK and a custom built out of parts Imperial Knight!

What will you be using the thallax for? Most of the guys at my local store use them as Ogryns which seems to be the closest.

Aye my thallax count as ogryns and using the thralls as storm troopers. Will have to see how that works with the new codex

Another update from me.

This week I 'av been mostly painting Vostroyans.

8 of the dudes done this now finishes off two squads. Another 8 were primed today and will be finished by next weekend.









I also managed to finish weathering the Knight and do a little bit of detail work. Need to tidy up the exhaust heat effects as they are a bit blotchy.

Preator is coming on nicely, its now all together with the launcher working as it should, was a bitch to put together and is a sod to raise and lower but happy it all worked out. Awaiting for some decals to turn up from FW so I can get them on and finish off weathering it and highlighting etc.








For the long weekend I plan on making enough city ruins to cover an 8x6 table lol. Should prove a laugh.

Thought I would update you all on the latest developments.

Over the bank holiday weekend I played through the Doom of Myeara with my brother inlaw. The week leading up to this I was busy making scenery and painting an Eldar Cobra Super heavy tank as a surprise early birthday present for him. Plus it would help to make the apoc games more balanced.

It was a close fought campagin but sadly the final mission was certainly written for 5th edition meta. The eldar had to cover a 6x4 board with the Phoenix lord, they could take anything but I could only take infantry and walkers. So I faced a wall of wave serpents :(

On the plus side my general having survived the whole campaign managed to punch a powerfist sized hole through the transport with about 12" to go! His Spacewolf allies then chopped a falcon in half, but sadly both their victories were short lived. The Phoenix lord ended the General and the Wolf Guard battle leader was cut down by bright lance fire.
