Hi Everyone,

I'd love some feedback on this list to make it more competitive or to make it play better. I'm going for an elite and mobile play style.

HQ
Destroyer Lord with weave and warscythe-140
Overlord with weave and warscythe-115
Despair trek with veil-60
Stormtek with lightning field-35

Troops
3x 10x Immortals- 170each so 510
1x Night Scythe-100

Fast Attack
6x Wraiths- 210

Heavy Support
1x Doom Scythe-175

Total=1345

The plan is to put the veiltek and the overlord with a an immortal squad for to hop around taking down infantry, use the Stormtek and a squad in the night scythe to unload and kill any strong armor. The third immortal squad will sit on and hold closest objective. All the while the destroyer lord and 6 wraiths with preferred enemy will be charging up the middle drawing a lot of fire and and killing anything they assault pretty quickly. The doom scythe is primarily for anti-air and anti-armor but is good against heavy infantry as well. I didn't want any non-flyer vehicles cause they would get destroyed quickly by anti-armour, but flyers are so hard to hit now that the two flyers should survive for most of the games. Veiltek will be useful for grabbing objective late game and both mobile immortal squads won't be squishy in combat because one has the overlord and the other has lightning field when assaulted plus overwatch shots.

The only thing I wish I had was the points to spend on a destructiontek for non-mobile objective holding squad, so if you see easy points to take out for that, that'd be great. Also wasn't sure if warscythe was the best weapon for the overlord, staff of light would help more for shooting but I felt like warscythe would be worth it for challenges or during assaults.

Again I'd appreciate any suggestions or concerns as I haven't play tested this army yet, thanks!

MSS is needed on the D-Lord surely?! Id put it on the OL too if he's going to be getting close to stuff. Probably paid for by the spare 5 points and dropping 2 immortals.

Good idea, thank you. I am always wary of putting too many points into my HQs but I think you're right that it is worth it in this case. Only having 8 immortals covering my home objective isn't too much of a problem either. Maybe I'll even remove two more to make room for that destructiontek.

Out of my Mind

If you're not attached to the Stormtek, then Obyron would do the same thing as your O-Lord and Veiltek with the added benefit of being able to teleport even if Engaged. It'll also be 15 pts Cheaper! He doesn't give access to a Court, but thought it worth mentioning. The 45 pts left over would free up pts for some upgrades on the D-Lord, without sacrificing any firepower.

The D-Lord should have MSS, the O-Lord won't be worth it as much since you're not going to be assaulting as aggressively as the D-Lord. I think a better option would be to take out the D-Lord, and take 2x5 man units of Wraiths. This will give you 2 units that can should be fast enough to help out the Immortals running around or protect both flanks from more aggressive armies.

Those are very valid points and teleporting out of engagement with Obyron would be nice. I do like the veiltek's AP1 flamer and the stormtek's effectiveness against vehicles, but I will definitely consider it.

Dropping the D-lord for a second wraith squad is also very tempting. The only problem with wraiths is that while they are cheap in points, they certainly are not cheap in money. Also the D-lord (especially with MSS) would be great for issuing challenges and killing enemy warlords. Plus preferred enemy on the wraiths makes them even deadlier.

Thanks so much for your feedback Akar,, it sounds like you're an experienced necron player

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Alright here is round 2, I decided to bump the points up to 1500 cause that is a much more common size and I am able to do it with only the addition of one model so don't have to buy a lot of new stuff. The overlord is a little over-upgraded, but it's cost effective money-wise and he will be a beast in challenges, plus phaeron allow the immortals to charge instead of being charged (thanks to Akar for that idea).

HQ
Destroyer Lord with weave, MSS and warscythe-160
Overlord with weave, MSS, res orb, phaeron and warscythe-180
Despair trek with veil-60
Stormtek with lightning field-35
Destructiontek-35

Troops
3x 10x Immortals- 170each so 510
1x Night Scythe-100

Fast Attack
6x Wraiths with 2x whip coils and 3x particle casters- 245

Heavy Support
1x Doom Scythe-175

Total=1500

In the future I'd like to add some annihilation barges, maybe when I go up to 1750 points. But any suggestions on this list? Any glaring weaknesses against certain things that stand out and do you think it would do well in tournament play?

Out of my Mind

First, the Particle Casters have got to go. The only thing they really do is potentially kill stuff making it harder to charge. I understand why people take the D-lord in a unit of Wraiths, I still don't recommend it. That said, since you are running him, that's the only time to take Whip Coils. I also get the budget thing, if you already have the D-Lord then use it. If not finding the extra $$ to get 1 Box of Wraiths and running 2x4 man units will go further, taking one of them up to 5 if you need/want.

On the Phaeron thing. If you're going to put him with Tesla Immortals you won't need it.

I know about the AP1 but remember that it's against LD. I'm not a fan of the tactic, but they really do combo well with Deathmarks. In either case, your Deep Strike is going to be unreliable or very risky to get close enough to do much damage despite being a decent weapon when being charged. No clear winner here, just wanted you to be aware that it's prob not going to be that effective while DSing around. Something to try, and see for yourself if you like it, is to not take the staff upgrade, and just use the SoL.

Something your going to really hate is Torrent Flamers. 2 Helldrakes especially. A lord with a Weave in those other Immortal units will fix this. Again, I'm only suggesting this as something to test out, but even this is a better use of points than the D-Lord. On a budget what most Necron players have done, myself included, is buy a box of Lychguard, and make Lords out of those. Get a BB gun pellet for orbs and good to go.

I'm just barely starting to use Anni Barges, and so far they've been great. Definitely get 1 kit, cause you'll get an Overlord out of it. I'm not sold on them being an auto include just yet. I've recently moved, and the new group plays smaller point games. These are usually the first thing to get dropped.
