Hello Dakka, I've been casting up some models and am now ready to base them, I was wondering if the Lightweight Hydrocal I have would be durable enough to be cast as the bases. I want the bases to be able to survive a small fall off a typical gaming table (hoping it doesn't happen, but preparing for it regardless). If the Hydrocal isn't enough, what would you suggest instead? for those who aren't familiar with the product i'm referring to it is this http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0006NARVI/?tag=mh0b-20&hvadid=3480262231&ref=pd_sl_3jtxw7b7su_e. Any comments and suggestions would be helpfull, and the quicker the better.

Thin plaster is a tough one. I have had some parts which are very thin survive surprising falls. I have had other parts which should have been plenty thick crack when picked up.

Some was no doubt due to bad mixes, but it is none the less a more fragile material. I've switched to using a polymer additive and it ends up being quite durable and more resistant to chips and fractures.

Not for bases though. Resin in simple open faced molds with wax paper and a bit of glass. Nothing too hard. Molds are easy to make and they are plenty durable.

would a cheap silicone mold due the trick of being durable enough to make the bases from 2 part alummite resin plastic?
