Hey Dakka,
I'm looking to make a Typhus Plague Zombie/Death Guard army. I don't really care if it's going to win a lot, it's mostly for fun/modeling change.

My question to ya'll is what makes a good Plague Zombie? I wanna stay away from cultists, although I might throw some in for variety. I'm leaning towards kit bashing Fantasy Zombies with Imperial Guard. I'm looked around the net, but have not really seen any good examples. Does anyone have any good links? Or maybe some non-GW ideas that would work?

They also come in 'zombie apokalypse' sets - mantic zombie sprues + mantic corporation sprues

Or to be more in line with the GW ways...

Zombies:

and
Imperial Guard:

Plus if you get some Catachan the models are sufficiently ugly they work great as straight-up zombies with pasty skin painting...

Plus these guys are sufficiently chewed looking to provide plenty of bits for the same thing (Flagellants):

Hope this helps.

Personally I prefer the mantic ghouls over their zombies, but either works well.

I like those mantic ones....might have to go that route. The main idea for me is that I don't want all of the zombies looking the same, and fluff wise it should be planetary guard and civs that are turned.

It depends on where you will be using them.
If you have a choice then Mantic is a good option or Studio Miniatures German WW2 zombies - http://www.studiominiatures.com/shop/germans.html
Mix them up with some Bolt Action plastics for more variety - http://store.warlordgames.com/collections/bolt-action/products/german-infantry-sprue

Check out my gallery here
Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!
