Hi all,

Im looking at taking my painting that little further. So I was wondering what brushes people out there use?
Mainly for the fine detail work etc.

Thanks for you points in advance.

Kolinsky sable - well worth the extra cost. I hardly ever use anything smaller than a 0 (even for eyes) because they come to such good points.

Brand is personal preference. I've used a few different makes and definitely prefer the Windsor and Newton 'Series 7' brushes - although I haven't tried a Rapael brush yet, which are the other main brand getting consistently good reviews. TBH you might just have to try a couple and see which suits you best.

These being as your in the UK. I find them to be almost as good as a W&N S.7 for half the price. Currently my fav's.
They do some cheaper red sables and sable/synthetic blends at good price points too. But they dont have as nice a point as the kollinksys.

Ive been trying these out last week, and they have a bit more snap than a kollinksy from R&C but less of a point.
Good basecoating brushes. Good price.

This is the place I bought mine, they also have a good number of less expensive sable brushes.

Fixed that for you
Yes thats a great set too essentially giving you the size 3 for little to nothing. I dont use my 3 from that set all that often, the 1 and 2 get lots of use.

I have tried the 'artists value kollinsky sables' from ken bromley art supplies before and found they werent any where near as nice as a W&N s.7 or a R&C s.33, also it had a long handle which I find undesirable (R&C give you a choice of handle length )

True, they are not nearly as good but I think still good value.

These brushes are the best quality for the money I SWEAR by them. You will NOT be disappointed. I picked up a size 0 for $3.59 USD at my local hobby store and its just as good as the Citadel fine detail brush that cost me 3 times as much. http://www.winsornewton.com/products/brushes/for-acrylic-colour/university/series-233-round-short-handle

I use Rosemary & Co, like HairySticks. Picked up a few Kolinsky Series 33s, but the size 2 Series 99 sable has become my real workhorse - reasonably good point, good snap, and large belly make it ideal for general use, from basecoating to detailing. Swap it out for the really intricate stuff, but at their prices, you can afford to get other brushes for those tasks.
