Im not particularly fond of this idea. But unless I put my overlord in a barge, the list I was thinking of would make any HQ just a tax, as there is nowhere really for a hq to go without being a total points sink. Im also not a huge fan of destroyers but I wanted some reliable anti-meq. Their fragility for their points is just terrible, which is why I thought that putting an overlord in there with a shifter, weave and orb might be the least points sink I could make him.
If running just 1 warrior blob, the rest in scythes, with the rest of the army being anni barges, a suicide veil/stormtek squad and scarabs, the obvious choice would be to put him in the blob with an orb. But I just cannot stomach 120pts to increase their rp by 1pt. If I start equipping him with mss, ws etc, I'll be paying assault points for a model to go in a blob I don't want in assault anyway so that seems counter intuative.
So I can really only see him either tanking for the destroyers or riding in a barge, at which point the 200pt unit of destroyers will collapse under a gentle breeze.
Is there a more efficient way to run him whilst still having a dedicated anti-meq unit in the force? I own a destroyer lord but no wraiths so that isnt an option.

I wouldn't put an orb with a squad of warriors unless there's 20 of them since it takes 2.3 warriors to justify it's cost and that's only if you roll a 4 instead of the normal 5+.

One thing you can do is put the lord to tank for your veil/stormtek combo or drop them and build out a RC unit. Lots of staves of light is great anti-MEQ or just field 5 destructeks for some heftier firepower and longer range.

With all of that said though - if you find yourself having difficulty finding a spot to put your overlord, sometimes is to put him on a CCB with a warscythe and mss and let him go to town. From my experiences, that would be more effective than the veil/stormtek combo and be about the same amount of points as well.

Unless you have 3-4 stormteks - veil/stormtek combo is usually not as powerful as a RC unit of destructeks or a Scythe-Overlord on CCB.

All you need is 1 Despair-tek with Veil and Shroud + 2 Storm-teks. That's 120 points of anti-AV that should reliably take out any one non-superheavy vehicle in the game on turn 1. The only reason you would need to include more Storm-teks is if you want to continue jumping around behind the rest of your opponent's vehicles for every consecutive turn. Not that that would be the worst idea, but it might be better alternative simply stick one or two with some Warriors/Immortals in a Nightscythe instead of sticking all 4 together with the Veil-tek.

Cheers for the feed back guys. Yeh thats how I made the list - 1 veiltek with 2 stormteks and 2 stormteks both in a warrior/scythe squad each. I could drop the destroyers and get a ccb for the overlord... but then I lose the dedicated anti meq.
The mass staves of light is a good shout... and cheaper than the destroyers too!

The two things the Destroyers have going for them over a Shooty Court is their mobility and rerollable 1s.
Sure, you could add a Veil-tek and a Chrono-tek to help mitigate those issues, but then you'll drive the price up while reducing the unit's killy-ness.

That's true. Plus they have another thing going for them -I own 8 of them whilst only owning 2 lords, 3 converted crypteks and pariahs to proxy IF allowed.

I have 2 overlords though - 1 in a barge so giving him a ccb isnt out of the question. Its just that damned fragility of the destroyers that worries me.
