I already have a majority of my army built but so far no mods have been made and i might sadly have to strip them down for historical accuracy , I want to make an army of interwar themed RED russians. I would like some help with some tips on where to find or how to model a plash pilatka(not pilatka as in the hat) and cossack hats.I am planning on using a lot of bits from victoria Minis because of the retro scifi theme that ehy display . So to say the least the only armor units ill be using are gonna look something like these. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:T19_01.jpg and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:T-24_tank.jpg I'll using mostly infantry and heavy weapons crews besides that and some mounted units as well. Your input is appreciated.

IMHO those tiny early tanks with their needle guns don't mix well with heroic scale tanks and their battle ship sized guns.
On the other hand, the monstrous KV2 fits well.

yeah ive looked into those, I don't like the gas masks id rather go with the ghost style gas masks if I were to have Gas masks, I probably wont do the KV2 because I'm doing earlier soviets.

Awesome glad to help, I hope they come out amazingly. You can make whole guardsmen on that site. And those grot tanks are tiny haha. That ork land battleship thing looks like it could work. The bane blade has lots of turrets on it doesnt it?

Yeah but the ork one resembles the t 35 way more closely and how tiny are we talking cuz the Renault knock off that was essentially the first soviet tank was pretty small.

Awesome, well it doesnt look too bad then eh? It does look very orky, have you considered just doing russian orks? Ork commissars, soviet grots (you can do a grot army using guard rules?) the list goes on.

I already have my guard. I don't wanna spend way more money, plus if I made an ork army I would make em' WWI Germans. I like WWI a lot I think haha

Unless you are really blatantly rude I read posts without emotion. So dont worry dude.
And yea I know how you feel, WW1 is my Favorite period, the uniforms, cavalry, navy everything I just love it.
Personally I think the tanks will be hard to pull off but if you can do it then I will love to see it.

I already painted some guys but then I thought...I love WWI so why not do an interwar soviet army haha.. A whole lot of people do like mid to late WWII soviet style.. it's cool but I'd like my army to be unique.

it seems like no one makes heads with Cossack hats, I posted to victoria minis page about it ..hopefully she does it. She's really busy though right now. VM makes great stuff. I'm sure you know lol that's roughly in your neck of the woods (well ocean)

yeah I just checked that out pretty sweet.. I love the penals.i was gonna do my vets as a penal squad after seeing the Russian movie svolochi which is about young criminals being used for a special suicide mission.

The first models I painted fully where vostroyans, epic models. I agree. 3rd party could make them really well.
Ill have to check that movie out, and thanks, most like the scottish its nice to see the penals get some recognition. They really look grim and scared (some insane too) its perfect for penal legion.

All good dude, the best thing in this hobby is themed guard lists, so I love trying to help people out. And dont fret, the force I have now took months of commission searching, shipping and planning to get it. Good things take time

I can tell you now, prepare for that list to change radically as you go on lol. There are so many cool minis out there, im weak for cool models, if you are stronger willed then your wallet will love you lol, if not, leave heaps of space below your army list
