This is my work station. There are many like it, but this one is mine. It's also a rather nice and cheap Bandua Wargames product that is going a long way to keep my hobby efforts more organised, especially the paint rack. On it, at the moment; is the start of my Roman army for Warhammer Historical, some Empress miniature U.S. Frogmen, alongside a Mantic Chovar(?) (Psychic Jellyfish) and some tucked away Hasslefree sculpts that were simply too nice not to buy.
If it isn't clear already, I am a hoarder. I took the big step away from
GW models and have been throwing money at all sorts of different companies. I've backed alot of kickstarters and plunged into many new systems and my main struggle is finishing models. The change has been good though, I've already played more games in the last six months than in the preceding three years and have been thoroughly impressed by games like Dropzone Commander, Zombicide and Blood Bowl to name a few.
But back on topic, I'm due to play my first game of Warhammer Historical in the coming week and need to get my 500 point warband finished. My list is probably a little flawed, but its more of a fun introduction into a game where I think I already understand most of the mechanics.
This is my first legionary unit's command element with the block red colour applied. I really like the warlord games plastics and picked up the army box for a bit of a steal, alongside a couple of metal reinforcements. The figures are a little smaller than I'm used to and can be a pain to rank up. I also spent a lot of time thinking about how to deal with the base tabs that all the models come attatched to, as you can see in the pic, one of the tabs has survived the process and is sticking out at the front! But I'll take care of it. I used a filler, (polyfilla) smoothed around the tab, on top of a flat renedra base before applying a sand gravel mix. I kept the tabs to provide a little bit of height- the Renedra bases are incredibly flat! Hopefully my Romans will not be dwarfed by the apparently larger barbarian sculpts Warlord does!
I hope to get basic colours down on this unit alongside two others before my game this week, though that may be a stretch, the back ranks will only be getting basic higlights and washes for a basic tabletop standard.
This is my 'allowed' distraction. This is one of a team of five Empress Frogmen from their recent kickstarter. I've made no atttempt to clean them up yet, but I've started to think about basing and I think calf deep in water would really make the amphibious nature of the team pop. But I've never really tried anything of that standard before, so any pointers or tips would be greatly received.
I appreciate the photos are not the best in the world, but I think they serve their purpose for an introduction and hopefully the quality of my pictures will improve with the models! Thanks for looking?
