I'm planning to start a IG force, but until I have enough models they will be used as allies for my Tau Enclave army. At the moment I'm thinking I'll keep the guard in reserve/outflank, with mass valkories and storm troopers, and a few guardsmen it reinforce the back line when my opponent pushes my suits out of their position.

When giving ideas note that people at my local GW call me the green skin tau because I'm very aggressive in how I rush the center of the map to take all the best positions and capture objectives early before my opponent can get there. And I'm looking for my guard to come in later and act as a killing blow hitting the enemy over extended to get close to my crisis teams. Or to bog down enemies while my crisis teams rush for the win.

I think guards work really well with Tau, more bodies and more guns, you just can't go wrong with that.

What I worry about is your play style, rushing forward can be fatal for an army like Tau(as I am assuming you have a suit heavy army). A good opponent will either counter you hard by running right at you with close combat units or simply work around you. It does put a lot of pressure into the enemy but it is dangerous.

1500pt O'Vesa Star W: 27 D: 2 L: 1
The challenge: in a 1500pt game I will play 900pt + D6x100 pts, if I roll a 6 I reroll and -100 to that second number (down to 1000pt minimum)

With only a few Guardsmen, I would suggest running them as Vets (instead of infantry platoons), and arm them with special weapons, like melta.

Put them in the flyers to start. Use your suits and aggressive Tau to maneuver the enemy away from their tanks/big things you don't like. When the flyers come in, zoom to a good drop position near their stuff that needs to die, and use the flyers special disembark rule to drop them within melta range.

Is one of my favorites.

Al Raheim and his guys outflanking In chimeras along with a vendetta could make an opponant make some hard decisions and give you the mobility and firepower to pincer them.

Sounds like what you want is the Elysians list. If FW is a no-no for whatever reason, go with a CCS in Vendetta w. 4 plasma guns, then 2 vet squads in vendettas with either 3xplas or 3xmelta, depending on your needs.

If you want a rear-guard, I'd also suggest the FW artillery. Again, if this isn't possible, try shoring up your defences with a blob, and some artillery.

Note to the reader: my username is not arrogance. No, my name is taken from the most excellent of commanders: Lord Castellan Creed, of the Imperial Guar- I mean Astra Militarum - who has a special rule known only as "Tactical Genius"... Although nowhere near as awesome as before, it now allows some cool stuff for the Guar- Astra Militarum - player. FEAR ME AND MY TWO WARLORD TRAITS.

Sometimes it blows up in my face, but most of the time I can run off with relics before the enemy can get in range, the trick to my tactic is knowing when to just back up, normally I have tau allied fire warriors waiting to catch the falling back crisis suits, but I'm looking at guard to replace them since they can last longer in melee, and are a larger mass of bodies to protect my rear.
