Wondering what's a good source of Imperialis detail (the skull with wings). Trying to make a press mold to put the detail on my guardsmen chest. Tried taking it off the marine armor but it proved to large for my use.

I'm sure GW sell a set of Imperium Aquilas In the Bits section under Imperial guard.

They do, but none have skulls and they're probably too big for a Guardsman's chest.

That's a really hard one, without delving into obscure bitz.

Wait a minute! Aren't there any full Imperialis icons on bolters or other marine weapons?

Oh yes!. Quite small, most of them able to fit on a guardsman's head too.

You guys sure? I'm looking at my tact squad bolter spures (new and old) and I only see plain bolter with no details, Aquila, skull facing sideways with one wing and a plain skull.

Huh. I could have sworn there was one along with the standard Aquila. Possibly not.

I know they aren't exactly what you are looking for, but Forge World offers etched brass Imperial Eagles, the smallest of which are pretty tiny.

Also, be warned about making molds from someone else's IP; even parts of them like symbols, details, etc.

Stuff like that is heavily frowned on (for good reason, I might add) around Dakka.

If it's for your own use and just a small detail for use on models, especially if you're showing primed/painted models, I don't think anyone will really mind or notice. That's not the same as recasting whole models or meltaguns or something.

I would imagine that you have been around long enough to know how the mods feel about this subject. Making a mold of and recasting any part of the IP of another person/company, even for your own use, is stealing. The mods, rightfully so, have little tolerance for anything of the sort.

I'm just passing along friendly information.

you may find it easier if not a lot cheaper to simply get a sharp knife and gently remove the winged skull off of a bunch of spare lasguns, if you are really careful you'll be able to lift them off in one piece.

it fits perfectly and is a hell of a lot easier and cleaner let alone more acceptable than trying to copy by other means.

If you find the slicing too fiddly get the Forgeworld etched set.

Push-molds of detail from parts of models is not doing anything in the wrong. I have seen such things in years past in White Dwarf hobby articles, as well as in the magazine by Privateer Press.

Right! Using your own models (or model bits) and molding details for use on your own models is totally kosher. There's nothing wrong with it in any way, legally or ethically.

Now, making molds and selling the resultant bits, or selling a mold to cast bits, using GW's stuff, is dodgy both legally and ethically. But doing stuff with your own models and your own green stuff? Go nuts.

GW can't tell you that sculpting an Imperialis for your model is okay, but casting an Imperialis is illegal. Plus, if you do a good job, they wouldn't even be able to tell the difference between a sculpted one and a cast one, especially under the paint!

-----Pointless side rant---------

It's weird to me how many people get confused/agitated/twitterpated about stuff like this, when 'for your own use' is pretty commonsense. No offense to anyone in particular in this thread, but it seems like something that pops up ALL of the time. I mean, if I offered you some chips and bean dip, and you took some and ate it, that would be okay. If you grabbed the bowl and the chips, took it home, and served it all to your own guests, everyone would see it as a douche move. Even more so if you took my chips and dip and then sold them to someone else.

You guys are missing the point, I am not saying it's okay or not okay, I'm reiterating Dakka's stance on the matter. I've been here long enough to see plenty of threads being locked because of recasting models or pieces of models, even for "personal use." I don't care what you do or don't do with the parts in question, I'm just saying tread lightly on the subject.

If you disagree feel free to PM a mod and ask for clarification.

Oh for anyone that cared I just realized there's a small Imperialis on Cadian helmets. Derp hidden in plain sight.

There should also be an Imperialis on most of the Cadian Shock troop lasguns, on the side of the gun's housing.

Just did a quick Google image search:

http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/196015-Cadian%20Shock%20Troopers.html

It'd probably be a lot easier to get a good mould from that since it's a flat surface as opposed to the curved one of the helmet
