Recently a friend got me interested in Infinity due to its low model count and (fairly) quick games. After having a skim over of the rules it looks fairly complex at first but should be easy to pick up over time. After much deliberation I have managed to narrow my choice of starting army to either Pan-O Military Orders or Yu Jing Imperial Service (both have my favourite looking models and fluff). As for my play style, I tend to prefer armies that sacrifice mobility and CC for heavy armour and long range firepower. Any suggestions on what to pick first would be a great help.

Greetings. There are only few armies that have CC specialists. Most of the engagements are ranged based. PanOceania tends to have better ranged units at the cost of mobility. Yu-Jing has better lieutenants (Sun Tze), distractions (Kuang Shi, bounty hunters) and mobility with great kick (Su-Jian). The shooting capacity doesn't differentiate by that much to play a huge role. When designing a list try to have a healthy order pool with some specialists added in. As starting purchases, starters are a solid recommendation. I'd recommend grabbing Sophotech and Yudbots with ISS starter. She's a great support specialists. After that I'd recommend Celestial Guard with Hacking device (try to get him in a single blister). Yu Jing - Imperial Service | 7 models ________________________________________________________ Celestial Guard Lieutenant (13|0) Celestial Guard Shotgun (13|0) Celestial Guard Grenadier (18|1) Celestial Guard Hacker (25|0.5) Wu Ming Shotgun (36|0) Hsien HMG (61|2) Sophotects (31|0) Yudbot (3|0) ________________________________________________________ 200/200 points | 3.5/4 swc open with Aleph Toolbox : http://goo.gl/9tbGnR It has a bit too few orders, but it is composed out of Starter/Sophotech (Aleph support box)/Celestial Guard (blister). You would need to proxy Hsien with HMG. You could make any army around Wu Ming but personally wouldn't recommend such play until you get few standard games. Fundamentally it is your decision. Similar for Military Order. The starter has great value and plays neatly out of the box (close to 150 points). Support box (doctor and engineer) isn't a bad deal. If you feel to putting your bargaining skills to a test I'd recommend trying to get a hold of Konstantinos, however not at the expense of purchasing entire Dire Foe content. You'd be paying too much for it. Sierra ( REM) is a invaluable to us, but it depends how much you want to spend in the initial purchase. Panoceania - Military Order | 8 models ________________________________________________________ Teutonic Knight Lieutenant (42|1) Magister Knight DA CCW (27|0) Konstantinos (29|0) Order Sergeant Spitfire (20|1) Order Sergeant Combi (13|0) Order Sergeant Combi (13|0) Order Sergeant TO Sniper (39|1.5) Trauma-Doc Doctor (14|0) Palbot (3|0) ________________________________________________________ 200/200 points | 3.5/4 swc open with Aleph Toolbox : http://goo.gl/l2LR7g

MO makes a decent force out of the box too. Using every model exactly as-is makes:
MILITARY ORDERS
──────────────────────────────────────────────────
GROUP 1 6 0 1
TEUTONIC KNIGHT Lieutenant Combi Rifle, Panzerfaust / Pistol, AP CCW. (1 | 42)
MAGISTER KNIGHT Panzerfaust / Pistol, EXP CCW. ( 29)
ORDER SERGEANT Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. ( 13)
ORDER SERGEANT Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. ( 13)
ORDER SERGEANT Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. ( 13)
SPEC. SERGEANT (CH: TO Camouflage, Infiltration) MULTI Sniper Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 39)
2.5 SWC | 149 Points
Open with Army 4
Two HI with panzerfausts to deal with other HI, and an infiltrating TO-camo multi sniper rifle that will be a pain to dislodge from cover. And once you've got the basic rules down the rifle sergeants can link up.

Guys, he's talking about heavy armour and long range at the cost of cc and mobility. Now, cc is very rare indeed, and cover will do more to protect you than armour, but what i'd say is either vanilla YJ (lots of good HI) or PanO vanilla or Neoterra (also lots of good HI, but they tend to be more long-ranged.) Oh, right, didn't see he wanted to play ISS or MO Seriously, most sectorials are heavily focussed, and I'd recommend to play vanilla as there are almost no sectorials that are overly defensive/gunline-ey. Vanilla would be a good way to start, also, no link rules to worry about! You could always do themed vanilla, and give yourself some extras (I really think you'll like the swiss and aquila guard!). Oh, and Nisses too!

Hmmm Aquila and Swiss guard do look very interesting. Ill probably start out with the Military Orders starter set and then branch out later so I can play both MO and Vanilla PO. I much prefer the order sergeants models to the fusiliers models, im sure people wouldn't mind much if i explained they were either being used as sergeants or fusiliers.

If you want to branch out into vanilla PanO later and aren't thrilled with the Fusiliers and want proxies, another PanO troop can fill the void - Acontecimento Regulars. They'll make more sense as Fusilier proxies. However, you won't find many people complain about proxies. Proxying is pretty common in Infinity, though people more do it due to profiles not being released yet.
