I've got a non-competitive multi-player game coming up soon (3v3, double table size) where I'll be allied with SM and Eldar against CSM, Tyranids and Necrons. I've not played a game like this before nor faced 'Nids or Necrons, so I'm unsure how to approach it. This is my list so far:

HQ: 385
Ghazghkull Thraka
Mad Doc Grotsnik

Elites: 385
Mega Nobz x 5 - Cybork, Shoota-skorcha kombi x 2
Lootas x 10

Troops: 1260
Nobz x 7 - Power Klaw x 2, Big Choppa, Shoota-skorcha kombi x 2, 'eavy armour, Waaagh! banner, Bosspole, Painboy, Cybork
Shoota boyz x 30 - Big Shoota x 3, Nob, Power Klaw, Bosspole
Shoota boyz x 30 - Big Shoota x 3, Nob, Power Klaw, Bosspole
Shoota boyz x 30 - Big Shoota x 3, Nob, Power Klaw, Bosspole
Shoota boyz x 30 - Big Shoota x 3, Nob, Power Klaw, Bosspole

Heavy Support: 210
Looted Wagon - Boomgun, Big Shoota, 'Ard case
Big Gunz x 3 - Lobbas, Ammo Runt x 2, +3 Grot crew

Dedicated Transports: 260
Battlewagon - Deff rolla, Grot riggers, Armour plates, Big Shoota
Battlewagon - Deff rolla, Grot riggers, Armour plates, Big Shoota

My thinking is that my role in the team will most likely be anti-infantry. I took Ghazghkull because I don't really know what to expect from my opponents in the assault phase so I wanted a HQ that couldn't be insta-killed and his Waaagh will be useful for the boyz (I have no more Battlewagons and Trukks will get minced by Necrons right?).

Any advice is appreciated.

Its hard to tell because we don't know what your team mates will be bringing. However if you are filling the role of anti infantry, your doing well so far, I'd bring more Lobba. In fact I would drop the Boomwagon (I love them personally but they simply don't pay for themselves) and replace it with another full set of Lobbas. Also, Lootas! Lootas and Lobbas!

Ghazghkull was a great choice, as well as Grotsnik - excellent combo.

I'm worried your BWs will get singled out and your MANZ - including Gaz - will be slowly waling up the field for the rest of the game. If your allies bring a bunch of high threat tanks this will be less of an issue, but it could still be a problem.

If your inclined to use the BWs then as you know, your going to want to floor it to their front lines and drop your nobz pronto before they get eaten by the mass amount of AT your Cron friends will be bringing.

Alternatively you could footslog with Gaz and the Doc, and just put them in 30 boyz squads. This will give a squad Slow and Purposeful, which is a down side but it does work.

Like I said, depends on your allies, if they bring a bunch of tanks your BWs should be fine - just as well off as normal.

Thanks for the reply Zarruk.

I believe my allies will have a few tanks and some walkers too so I'm hoping to flat out my wagons and get away with it, that's why I spent it bit more on upgrades to keep the deff rollas moving.

I considered footsloggin' Ghaz with shoota boyz and have him tank all the non AP2 shots he can but it's a bit cheesy.

I'm concerned about the amount of 3+ saves on the table with CSM and Necrons so that was why I took the Boomwagon but another set of lobbas sounds awesome, that's a lot of multiple-blast pinning goodness.

Is 7 Nobz in the BW too many? Should I take out the slugga/choppa nob and use the 30 points on Lootas?

Actually, I think it would be too risky to use Ghazzy as a damage sponge for shooting, since a Warboss could do it just as well for a far lower price. Instead, you could plonk him in with the Meganobs (and Grotsnik if he's joined with them as well), point them at a thing that seriously needs to be krumped, and zoom as far ahead as possible with them.

And if the BW is still alive, it can krump some gits while the Boss and his lads slaughters the unit.

Also, if you do have Grotsnik with the Meganobs, I'd recommend having him at the back of the unit, since he doesn't exactly have mega-armor, and you'd want to keep those FnP saves.

Just my two pennies.

I'd recommend stormboyz advancing behind wagonz and a sag mek with lobbas or zzap gunz. They're alwayz much fun.

on the sag, it is loads of fun and gives you ap 2, only issue I run into its scattering off the target. I have however scattered onto a forgefeind with str 10 and wipe that out have you pondered the idea of bikernobz? They are dead killy in my list.

I'd say otherwise. The SAG might be a nice way to get AP2, but you do also risk rolling mishaps, or simply roll too low to do anything with it.

And I'm totally not saying this because I was dumb enough to place Ghaz too close to a SAG mek that blew up in the first turn. Totally not.

But thats the point of the SAG, you never know what is going to happen hahaha If you dont like randomness DO NOT take a SAG. If you want to have fun and get a few lucky shots that may have a huge impact on the game go SAG!

Honestly I say the more nobz the better, but that wouldn't be a bad spot to trim if you have to. Personally I like MANZ much more than vanilla nobz, and I would take two sqauds of them, they are cheaper than a nob with PK and get a 2+. Then add grotsnik in there and that is terrifying.

If your allies are bringing tanks then by all means, bumrush your wagons across the feild, but expect them to draw a lot of fire, so I would walk your 30 boyz squads up behind the wagons so if one or both get popped and your Nobz are in the open, help is on the way.

The best way to deal with 3+ saves is make them take ALOT of them, your boyz units are excellent with this, your nobz and Hqs will be excellent with this. The rest of the units in your list have jobs to do other than kill MEQs, Lootas for AA, Lobbas for the Nids (or whatever you think is best), If you can find any extra points to play around with, an Ageais Defense line OR a squad of grots would be excellent cover for your Lootas and Lobbas.

Solid list though, you can't really go wrong with 120 boyz.

Edit: P.S. Don't take a SAG, not reliable whatsoever, fun yes, competitive no.

i don't think i ever played a game where the SAG has earned his points back. However, now and then i give it another shot, pure for fun

8000 points fully painted
hive fleet belphegor 3500 points
1k sons killteam

Dakka is the ork word for shooting, but the ork concept of shooting is saturation fire. Just as there is no such thing as a "miss" in a target-rich environment, there is no such thing as a "dodge" in a bullet rich one

Great responses guys many thanks.

I don't have any nob bikers at the moment but I'm planning on building some soon, not enough bitz right now though.

Grotsnik will be with the MANz (too hard to resist 2+ 5++ 5+++!), hiding at the back of the squad and Ghaz will be most likely with the Nobz for FNP, he'll be my Warlord and I wanted a bit more control over him rather than him being led around by the Doc's one scalpel short of a medpack rule.

I think I'll skip on the SAG, hilarious as he is I'm going to go for reliability this time around.
I also see Stormboyz as too much of a price sink for something with no save, they move fast but just get dead quicker.

Good idea on a squad of Grots to cover for the Lootas though, I have no idea how many outflanking units I might see.

I only have 3x Big Gunz currently but would love to add more, so I think my main changes to the list right now would be removing the Boomwagon and adding more Lootas (splitting into two units) and a 19 strong unit of Grots. I think this will just be a judgement/preference call at the time depending on how I feel.

You will be happy with the grotz, they are cheap, effective at what they do and as a bonus they are scoring, so in the right situation you can sit them and your lootas on a home objective instead of wasting 30 boyz on that task. Also, more lootas is more dakka and more dead everything else, excellent choice. You should do pretty well with this list. Good luck, and let us know how it goes!

Cheers
