You need 1 HQ and 2 Troops, So this is what I came up with.

HQ Chaos Lord
on a bike with power weapon, Sigil of Corruption and Mark of Nurgle.

2 x 10 Chaos Cultists

3 x obliterators with mark of Nurgle

1 x Chaos Spawn.

Total 498

Table size is 24" x 48"

cheers I was considering it against tau/orks elder and guard ,but would have to drop Spawn and more likely to face Marines, and could/can use spawn as extra wounds for bike HQ crossing table.

A lord with a power maul should be sufficient vs your expected opponents. He's fast and s6 gets you some clutch instant death.

I like the list overall. I think the oblits should be run as 3 seperate units to maximize their flexibility. And I would like to see flamers on the cultists, at least for overwatch or clearing a lightly guarded objective.

Xom finds this thread hilarious!

I would suggest:

Chaos lord on a bike with Axe of blind fury

(3) chaos bikers MoN with a meltagun

(10) cultists with a flamer

(10) cultists with a flamer

Heldrake with a baleflamer

It is the 3rd Millennium. For more than a hundred months Games Workshop has sat immobile on the Golden Throne of Nottingham. It is the foremost of wargames by the will of the neckbeards, and master of a million tabletops by the might of their inexhaustible wallets. It is a rotting carcass writhing invisibly with business strategies from the early Industrial Revolution Age. It is the Carrion Lord of the wargaming scene for whom a thousand veteran players are sacrificed every day, so that it may never truly die. Yet even in its deathless state, GW continues its eternal vigilance. Mighty battleforce starter-sets cross the online-store-infested miasma of the internet, the only route between distant countries, their way lit by a draconian retail trade-agreement, the legal manifestation of the GW's will. Vast armies of lawyers give battle in GW's name on uncounted websites. Greatest amongst its soldiers are the Guardians of the IP, the Legal Team, bio-engineered super-donkey-caves. Their comrades in arms are legion: the writing team and countless untested rulebooks, the ever vigilant redshirts, and the writers of White Dwarf, to name only a few. But for all their multitudes, they are barely enough to hold off the ever-present threat from other games, their own incompetence, Based Chinaman - and worse. To support Games Workshop in such times is to spend untold billions. It is to support the cruelest and most dickish company imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of sales discounts and Warhammer Fantasy Battle, for so much has been dropped, never to be re-published again. Forget the promise of cheaper digital content and caring about the fanbase, for in the GW HQ there is only profit-seeking, Space Marines and Sigmarines. There is no fun amongst the hobby shops, only an eternity of raging and spending, and the laughter of former employees who left GW to join better companies.

No! A heldrake at 500 points is a bad idea that only those infected by must-take-helturky syndrome would suggest

Having almost 1/3 of your army off the board until turn 2 or 3 is a bad idea, especially when its so easy to avoid. A zooming flyer doesnt care about its fixed velocity at 2000 point games because there are many squads covering the board to shoot at. But at only 500 points, it will fly in turn 2 or 3, burn up 1 squad, then go off to some vacant area of the board.

At that point level, you need to decide between a cheap HQ and loads of troops or the contrary.

A sorcerer might be a good investment at that point level. It can boost other units ince your HQ will probably not do all the work by himself. If you stick with a lord, I'd suggest LC instead of PW.

Cheap and effective units to consider :
A termicide squad (3 terminators with combi melta) to DS behind your opponent tank (no plural at that point level!).
MoN biker lord with brand - really cheap, highly effective
More spaws to cover your lord and give a high threat range.

Dropping the oblits can buy you a termicide squad + 2 spaws.
