Apart from straight up trolling. I appreciate all criticism. I only want to improve. You can be negative, just give me some constructive feedback with it.

So sadly, the guy I chose to start working on clearly missed the wash phase of being stripped. Got the flesh done and some basecoating , then his shoulder came off and he has lots of tiny fibers everywhere. So back into the acetone he goes.

Apart from that, I would appreciate feedback on what I had gotten done.

Question for everyone. I have three sets of the same three models. Any suggestions on how to make them look different?
I have a few plastic bits from catachans that i could use, I was thinking of replacing ones weapon with a flamer.

Very cool, I suggest painting the base rim black to make them really stand out.

Maybe put jungle leaves and branches coming out of the cracks?

You needn't worry, there isn't much of that around here. The regulars that lurk in the P&M forum are friendly and helpful.

Out of curiosity, what kind of criticism are you looking for? Everything looks fine to me; the bases look good and the models look like they fit in with them... but nothing is painted so it's kind of hard to really offer anything more substantial.

Get some paint on those bad boys and show them off!

Also, you can upload pictures here on Dakka. It's an easier way to show off your pictures than linking offsite.

And some, I assume, are good people."

Definitely on the black rims, likely when I'm done handling the base.

Any suggestions on what to use for leaves and branches? I like the idea, as I do feel they lack a certain jungle feel.

In NZ you can buy like a layer of Aquarium grass thats fake, you can cut it into shapes as you wish etc.

A couple of varieties of this cut into bits and pieces you wish will be bright, great and easy to do.

I think.

Intend to keep this thread going for awhile as I work. So more stuff will come to criticize.

I find documenting my progression keeps me more into it.

I will look into the picture thing! Did not realize this was an option. Thanks!

Aquarium was a great tip! I purchased a fake plant and just cut it as I go. Thanks.

For Catachans I would highly recommend that you use black primer instead of white, especially if you plan on a dark green scheme.

Check out my gallery here
Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

I recommend sticking to white primer. Because taking black primer and making a decent flesh color is harder than making white primer green. Given the surface of flesh you have on Catachans I would stick with white, easier for skin.

Very nice bases. Would say add more jungle feel to them, such as big leaves. Good job overall.

I was under the impression color of primer is irrelevant because you need to do a base coat anyway.

I kind of have a "just raided a jungle compound" kind of motive. Also..... I cant paint leaves. Hah

Different primer affect how bright some colours come out. eg if you paint a red over white, it will be really bright, over grey it will be neutral & over black a bit darker. This is because the layers of paint are very thin so what's underneath will show through. some colours are better at covering darker colours like mid to dark blues & greens. I also find that metallics work so much better over black.
Also if you start with black then the shadows are already done, the boots will have their base coat & the guns will be ready for metallic paint.
For an army based on loads of infantry & tanks you really want to reduce the amount of time on each mini.
I can't remember the last time I used white primer. I use black, grey, yellow ochre & red oxide (all from Halfords).
Therefore I can't disagree with Erik more. if you have any doubts please check out my gallery to see my results (link in my sig below). I'm not claiming to be the best painter out there but i am really proud of some of the finished pieces in my collection.
Plus I've only being doing this for 29 years so what do I know?
