So, three of my friends and I have been playing a series of battles with our armies (my army is Eldar, they have Orks, Guard and SM) in which we play 2 vs 2, with each team functioning as a single army (shared force organisation chart, however each army needs it's own HQ which acts as a Warlord, so 2 Warlords a side).

So far, we scraped a brutal draw in Eldar/SM vs Guard/Orks, we unleashed the pain in Eldar/Guard vs SM/Orks, but now it's time for Eldar/Orks vs Guard/SM, in a 1600 point match (so 800 each army).

The Guard/SM army are likely to be bringing a Stormtalon (it proved very irksome last game), one or two Leman Russes (one with battle cannon, the other one in the crazy mass plasma config), two chimeras, probably two dreadnoughts and a termie squad, and possibly a Land Raider (although it got immobilised first turn last match, so possibly not), plus a couple of tac squads and the usual massed guardsmen. I also have a sneaking suspicion that the Guard player may be purchasing a Valkyrie in the time leading up to the battle.

My Ork team-mate is bringing a warboss, a squad of boyz, squad of ard boyz in a trukk, 5 nobz, possibly 3 deffkoptas and 3 killa kans to act as a mobile shield / dakkabase. Before you tell me how poor this is, that's all he has!

The troops I currently have access to (I may be able to purchase one or two extra bits before the battle but not much, so NO WHOLESALE LIST MAKEOVERS PLEASE) are as follows:

Farseer (on foot)
9 x Jetbikes (Warlock conversion possible)
8 x Dire Avengers
5 x Swooping Hawks
5 x Warp Spiders
1 x Fire Prism
5 x Howling Banshees
Also arriving this week are...
1 x Wave Serpent
5 x Wraithguard
2 x War Walkers

We're quite flexible with 'counts as' in that my Farseer could potentially be a Spiritseer without any fuss.

My issue is, every list I've been drafting I've wanted to stick the WG in the Serpent, take the Walkers, Prism and Farseer (or at least Spritseer), leaving me next to no points left over and a mighty 10 models for 700 points that could get plasma'd to death on turn 2 (the guard player LOVES his plasma).

Having come back to 40k after some years away and browsing this forum regularly, I thought I'd ask for some opinions! Like I said, I can get one or two extra units before the battle, but not much more.

I like your eldar line up it utilizes your offensive capabilaty to the fullest with the small amounts of points you have and that's not easy to do. ive done this game before but instead of playing offence i played defence and went with a more supportive role for my orkish cousins. but if you are going to be taking the fight to the enemy i'd grab some scorpions they are very fun and effective especialy against marines i would also scrap the war walkers because of their low armor and because they can be tied up in combat instead I'd grab some dark reapers because they will easily take out anything a space marine player can throw at u.

also if you can scrap something for more infantry of any cind i would support it

Executing Exarch

The Twilight Zone

If your up against an executioner( the plasma death tank you speak of) that is over 25% of the IG army right there. It is horribly ineffective against most eldar units, being either massive overkill or underpowered. Stormtalon is a pain, but not a whole lot you can do to stop it. If they both are taking air units, hope they don't come in right away, so you can overwhelm them early.

Since orks generally don't have good AT(his list has little to none) your going to need to load up on all the AT guns you can get. Ork boys are solid troops to score and camp on objectives, but your jetbikes can hide in reserves and be used for last turn contesting/scoring. Don't worry about CC, if anything gets ugly, your ork ally should handle it. Allow his boys to buffer anything you keep in the backfield.

With what you have, I would run the following
HQ
Spiritseer
TROOP
5 Wraithguard in a wave serpent with TL scatter lasers and holo fields(spiritseer here)
3 jetbikes
FAST
5 warp spiders
HEAVY
Fire prism w/holo fields
2 war walkers w/ 2 scatter lasers each(or bright lances if your really worried about anti tank)

This is probably as good as you can do to compliment the orks. Lots of powerful anti tank, albeit not a lot of models. True, plasma will end your wraithguard, but don't just throw them out there. Take out the heavy tanks ASAP, and if your wraithguard pop out, they should be able to nuke a tank. Cast conceal(or invisibility if you roll it) on them to give them a cover save against plasma vets. Your job is to pop the armor, and let the ork player dakka em down. Use range to your advantage. Your marine opponent will have next to no troops-2 dreads, 5 terminators and a stormtalon are ~500-600 points depending on loadout, without meeting the 2 troops and 1 HQ choice.

Do NOT take scorpions or reapers. Based on what you are up against, both will be horribly ineffective choices. Both are expensive, and take away from the critical AT you need to field.

The most important rule of 40K-Page XVII of the 6th edition rulebook, the figure at the top right of the page. "Shake hands with your opponent and thank them for a good battle and fun experience." Then go out for a beer.

Yeah, I was considering the Scorpions just for the fear factor of having them infiltrate high up the field, but they do seem a bit of waste when we can just throw the Orks up the field as fast as possible instead.

One idea I was mulling round with was to put Bright Lances on the walkers and give the WG D-Scythes to mince marines and termies, but it seems like a waste considering his squads aren't gonna be much bigger than five models anyway and with the cannons they can pop tanks and instakill everything else?

(I mean the SM, the guard squads I'm counting on the Orks to crush)
