Being based in Virginia, and being British, I've always been fascinated with the American Revolution/American War of Independence (delete according to your level of patriotism), and I was curious as to which historical rule set and miniatures would be best for representing that period. Either in 15mm or 28mm scale.

So, dakkadakka brain trust, what would you recommend?

Maurice or British Grenadier for rules using Perry Miniatures.

Plastic British already out and Continentals to follow.

Muskets and Tomahawks is a good set of skirmish rules for the era. It also covers the French and Indian War.

28mm either Perry's or Front Rank, Foundry are also nice - they are designed by the Perry's and fill in the gap in the Perry range. You should also have a look at Fife and Drum - http://fifedrumminis.blogspot.co.uk/ as they are superb figures.

15mm Old Glory and Peter Pig

As for rules British Grenadiers or Maurice are good for larger battles.

For skirmish, Sharp Practice or Musket's and Tomahawks - though imo M&T is a rather thin game if you don't use the role play rules, a little too like the old Charles Grant rules in the Wargame - which is not a bad thing, it's just Grant's uses much larger units and provides a better spectacle.

To wit...

Dixon also has a nice line of Rev War, though they're 25mm:

British Grenadier and Age of Reason are good for large battles. For skirmish muskets and tomahawks are good for quick fun games.

The black rage is within us all. Lies offer no shield against the inevitable. You speak of donning the black of duty for the red of brotherhood; but it is the black of rage you shall wear when the darkness comes for you.
