Today and tomorrow, I'll be verusing CSMs manning Bel'akor and 9 MoN Oblitz.

Yes, that 1,034 pts for 10 models. He'll probably go 2 Hellturkeys as well. 2000pt game.

I run a mostly Nidzilla build, though I have enough small stuff to swarm.

I don't use Gargoyles; I just never had.

That said, I've been racking my mind last night on how to fight this. Sure, I could just ignore Bel'akor... But I want to crush him / gourge on his biomass.

Any tyranid players have experience fighting this?

While I will hunt down his scoring units and wipe this poor showing of an army off the field, I won't consider it a win if I can't kill him.

Use 60 gants and 2 mamis, be sure you run them up fast and tarpit the oblits with them so you avoid drakes and nullify the oblitz.
Use 2 Flyrants and 3 Crones to win air supremacy against drakes and be“lakor. Use venonthorpes for the first 2 turns aproaching. use also Vengance Weapon bateries for cover and some ap3 large blast.
Use Biovores for cultist.
You got an easy match.
Very easy actually.

I can do everything you mentioned with no issue.

I don't have any fortifications of any kind, however.

Would you recommend those batteries as a multi-use fort, or a firestorm redoubt?

Since he's so top heavy in points, I think a fortification is the least I could do for him.

Don't forget about your Shadow in the Warp. That should make it alot more difficult for Belakor to get off any tricksy psychic shenanigans.

2 Dakka Flyrants should be able to shoot Be'lakor down if you can catch him without Invisibility.

I have a peanut allergy. It's really inconsiderate.

Belakor comes with shrouded, so if he is in ruins or similar he can be a pain in the ass.

Right, Shrouded... I suppose a few Vector Strikes would do him in, especially from Hive Crones.

The only time I played against Belakor my opponent failed the grimoires on him and he made the mistake of placing him behind an Aegis Defence Line but not in terrain and quite close to my Flyrants, a Crone and an Harpy, it didn't lived to see the next turn.
Also he has a 4++-

Keep your synapse close enough to Be'Lakor to ruin his psychic powers and use the fly rants to gun him down. Even forcing a grounding check and swarming him with grants will tie him up for awhile. Swarm the obits and you shouldn't have much else to worry about. If he brings gs Heldrakes, get your fly rants behind them and pump your twinlinked devourers into rear av10.

Also don't forget to play the mission. If he brings all that he only has about 500 points for troops. You should be able to table him and take objectives as well.

You can fit over 100 cultists into 500 points (150 points for 35 stock). I would be careful with that assumption.

Be'lakor does many nasty nasty things with fear aswell... his vector strike is weak at S5 i believe though.

Chaos largley lack the ability to ignore cover (His Oblits) so you want to be looking at Venomthropes and cover for your big beasties,

Try to add some psykers as Catalyst would be a huge bonus.

Roll on strategic warlord table and hope for either stealth in ruins or to hamper his Helldrakes coming in with the -1.

As for the Helldrakes and Belakor, Flyrants will help and Crones if you have them. Vector strikes ignore cover (see faq) so he'll only have his Daemon save. Heldrakes you can shoot up the arse with Flyrants.

good luck.

Cultists are pretty lousy troops though. I'll anything in the Tyranid codex against them, especially large groups of gants or guants. Unless there's a character with fearless I'm that mess of cultists, they're probably getting swept, and that's before they are whittled down with shooting. Sure they can stay reserve, but then you can deal with them later, and they may be out of position to get key objectives.

Yeah 100 cultists usually means 25 models that die and the rest flee off the board. They're fairly garbage except for being cheap and hopefully you can hide them.

Add Deathleaper and take d3 Ld off Belekor as well. Paired with Shadows in the Warp and he may have a very hard time getting any psychic powers off.

And hiding 30-100 cultists isn't exactly easy to do, especially vs an army like tyranids that can swarm and cover large parts of the board fairly easily.

Kill his 2 troops.

Enjoy winning.

Actually, there are some nice options for some easy winning. Take 2 Tyrannofexes, armed with as much AI as possible, and just let them go bonkers on his troops. If he spams cultists, you just won with plenty of goodness, plus they are immune to Helldrakes. Take a couple birds in the air, whatever you perfer, and drop the drakes. Once that is done, focus down the Demon, and you should be good. I would grab 2 small units of Genestealers, maybe with a broodlord, for backfield objectives.

"There is a cancer eating at the Imperium. With each decade it advances deeper, leaving drained, dead worlds in its wake. This horror, this abomination, has thought and purpose that functions on an unimaginable, galactic scale and all we can do is try to stop the swarms of bioengineered monsters it unleashes upon us by instinct. We have given the horror a name to salve our fears; we call it the Tyranid race, but if is aware of us at all it must know us only as Prey."
