Well its coming to that time. I would like to buy a new console. I have a ps3 at the moment and have had an xbox360 in the past. I plan on keeping my ps3 as I have tons of games I still enjoy! what's everyone's opinions? And why did you choose what you chose.

I vote the Xbox One.

I don´t care what other people say, or if it´s "crap", or if the PS4 is "better".

I prefer Xbox live over PSN, and the Xbox exclusives over PS exclusives.

As someone who owned a 360 and too many games to count (including original Xbox games), I thought long and hard about what I'd buy.

I settled for a PC.

Granted, on topic, I'd buy an Xbone for the exclusives I prefer if I was forced to choose one.

I bought a PS4 shortly after release and I've been perfectly happy with it. The games run great, the UI is very fast, and I really like some of the features such as the replaceable hard drive and the inbuilt Twitch streaming. The controller is great too, a massive improvement over the Dualshock 3. I actually prefer it to my 360 controller. It's similar to the rest of the console in that it's very solid and well built. I like the overall design too. There's no power brick, and it simply looks like a gaming console instead of a DVD player.

The main reason I bought one though, aside from being completely unimpressed by Dead Rising and Ryse, was because I just didn't like what I heard at E3.

Now, I know Microsoft backtracked on all that bs, but they still tried to put in place all these restrictions and since all it took was a software update on release to take them out, they could just as easily be snuck back in with another simple update. The fact that they threw their dummy out of the pram and took away all the good things like family sharing just compounded the issue. I was also unimpressed by their focus on multimedia. I freely admit that I watched Netflix on my 360 and watch Netflix on my PS4 now, but I didn't buy them to do that. It simply rubbed me the wrong way. It's a console, at the end of the day. People are going to buy it to play games. I'm not paying a premium to do what my TV can already do.

The price was important too. It's not like I was operating on a budget, I mean, I was buying a next gen console on the day of release, but I looked at what I'd be getting in each box and I decided that the Kinect was not worth an extra eighty quid. I feel vindicated, to be frank, because the Xbone is consistently underperforming, and the Kinect just hasn't had any impact on games. It's been shunned.

In saying all that, it does eventually come down to the games. Ask yourself, what exclusives you like the look/sound of? Personally only release exclusive that grabbed my attention was Killzone, and aside from Halo 5 there aren't any announced Xbone exclusives in the next few years that have captured by interest, whereas the PS4 has Infamous, The Order 1886, whatever Naughty Dog are doing, whatever Sony Santa Monica (the developers of God of War) are doing, Deep Down from Capcom, whatever Media Molecule (of LittleBigPlanet fame) are doing, whatever Team Ico are doing, and quite a large number of indie games like Hyper Light Drifter coming out later in the year. Cross Platform? The PS4 has the superior hardware at least. Games are going to look better on it than on the Xbone.

This matters to me mostly because I'm a 360 guy, but Sony are attempting backwards compatibility. I wasn't too bothered by its apparent absence pre-release because I understand that it's a pain to implement practically and economically, but since I never had the chance to play lots of PS3 exclusives I'm really looking forward to PSNow, which is a service that will let you stream a library of games to your console over the internet. If you have a PS3 obviously this may not be an advantage, but I'm really looking forward to getting to grips with the likes of The Last of Us and Shadow of Colossus. They're also building PSOne and PS2 emulation software, so there's a chance you'll be able to pop Star Wars Battlefront and Rachet and Clank in the disc drive and play away. Microsoft haven't announced anything like this so far. That might change, what with that whole speal about the power of the Cloud, but right now there's not going to be any backwards compatibility for the Xbone. That's a shame really, because there are still games from the original Xbox era like Conker that I'd like to try.

PS+ was never that much of a factor for me because it was a given that I was going to subscribe, after having Gold nonstop for six or more years. I'm not entirely familiar with what advantages Gold gives you on the Xbone, I've heard some things about it restricting what apps you can use, but so far PS+ has been pretty good. I've gotten Don't Starve, Resogun, Contrast and Outlast for free. None of these are exclusives but they're all good, which is important. I think it's definitely something for people to keep in mind as the years progress.

I'll be honest though and disclose that I am still thinking about picking up an Xbone at some point in the future. I may have jumped ship for now but I've been an exclusive 360 guy for seven years, and that sort of bran loyalty does not just disappear. I'm a die hard Halo fan, and depending on how the exclusives pan out in the future, like Fable Legends, I'll probably find one in my living room at some point in the next couple of years.

All in all, the PS4 has several features and aspects that the Xbone doesn't, and does certain things better, whilst there isn't really much going for the One in comparison. I don't like Kinect, don't like its exclusives, and don't need its media capabilities. That's not to say that this is going to remain the same for the entire generation, but the PS4 is off to a much stronger start. In all probability there wont be a huge difference after a few years. That's what happened last generation, after all. I think I made the right choice for the foreseeable future and I can always just buy an Xbone if Microsoft get their act together.

I feel the need to comment that the same was said about the PS3. We didn't notice any of that, since cross-platform is generally just the same game on a different console.

Yeah, because the PS3 was a pain in the ass to develop for so most of the cross platform games were just ports from the 360. That's different this generation. Not only does the PS4 have the better specifications (in terms of its GPU and RAM), it's the easier platform to make games on, thanks to the Xbone's ESRAM. None of that even matters though, because the reality is that games are already performing better on the PS4. That'll probably change in the next few years once developers figure out how to more easily utilise the ESRAM, but properly optomised cross platform games and exclusives will always look better on the PS4, simply thanks to that added power.

I've played both, and definitely enjoyed the PS4 more. That, and it's cheaper

ipro hit the nail on the head as to why I bought a PS4 and not an xbox one, though personally for me, my ps4 right now is really just a dvd player, I bought it to play watch dogs which again got delayed. Right now I dont think either console has any must own games right now so if i had to do it over again I wouldnt have bought the ps4. I've been waiting to get an xbox one just to have it but cant justify the expense considering there are zero titles i want to play for it out right now

PS4, design wise you don't have to worry about a big-ass power brick, its slimmer and takes up less space unlike the VCR-esque Xbone.

Technical wise, PS4 is more capable than the Xbone, not by a huge margin but still noticeable given that some of the games on Xbone are actually running on 720p like Dead Rising 3 rather than 1080p.

Game wise it looks like PS4 has more unconventional non-shooter exclusives to look forward to in the near future with Infamous: Second Son around the corner and you get a lot of good deals for indie games and other things you might not have gotten with PS+ like Resogun amongst other things.

Ayup. Not to mention the 3rd party games will play/look better on it as well, as has been shown already, many times.

I'm waiting another half year or so to get a console. My reasoning:

1. Waiting for some of those big promised games to come - Watch Dogs, for example.
2. Allows patches to work out all the kinks
3.Rumors of a cheaper Xbone version - probably no bundled Kinect
4. No backwards comparability between consoles means those 360/PS3 games I never got to play are going for cheap now that the new gen is in. I might even consider buying a PS3 just to see what I missed in the past generation having been a 360-only guy the whole time.

So I'd say hold off for now, and then see how things have changed.

I bought a PS3 at launch and watched DVDs on it for the better part of six months. This time, I am content to wait for a game I actually want to play on the new console.

I haven't considered buying a Xbone, however.

I'm going to sound like a Sony spokesperson, but check out PSNow if you haven't already. I was in the same position as you, having had a 360 for the whole of the last generation, so there are plenty of games I missed out on. Hopefully, this develops successfully.

I bought an Xbone the week before xmas soley because I had a xmas bonus burning a hole in my pocket, and PS4's just weren't available anywhere. I would have liked to stick with Playstation, but now that I have it I'm enjoying my xbox. I really don't care if this or that can push more pixels or this or that has better games. Both have plenty of power and all the best games end up on both.

The only thing that bummed me out was I had Necros for my gamertag way back when XBL was first launched, but I wasn't allowed to resurrect it because microsoft said they wiped all the old tags a long time ago and there's no way to bring them back. So I'm Gangfight Games on XBL now

I'm in no position to be able to afford either new console or an updated PC (which is what I'd prefer ultimately), but I'm definitely leaning towards the PS4.

All I'd miss from Xbox would be Halo and the Fable series. And the PS4 will have Elder Scrolls Online, Planetside 2 and any future The Last of Us sequels.

Xbox one would seem tempting to me due to the imminent release of Titanfall, however, i feel that as great as it look,s one good multiplayer shooter does not a good choice of console make.

I think the PS4 definitely offers better value for money (both in terms of hardware and subscription service) but the Sony First party 'house style' is not everyone's cup of tea. Naughty Dog offers the same cinematic thrill rides of Microsoft first party titles but most other Sony titles focus more on innovation and uniqueness. (Examples like LBP, Journey or Tearaway).

If however you just want a Watch_Dogs machine go with the PS4 it'll look a bit nicer and i've heard mixed things about the One controller.

EDIT:Another issue i have is that Microsoft haven't come out with any plans for re-releases of some of 360's classic titles, if i was a PS3 gamer i would be very interested in a Gears of War enhanced edition anthology or something.
EDIT2: Forgot about Halo 2 Anniversary, gosh darn i want that game!

I've got the PS4 and am sorely disappointed in the lack of split screen games. If you're gonna be a lonely gamer, might as well get a PC.

Personally? Xbone, I'm pretty invested in the Halo lore. That said, probably won't be bothering this time around. When I look at the current gen consoles I just see 2 gakky PC's without a mouse and keyboard.

Besides, can't think of any other exclusives I actually care about anyway.

Almost obligated to go PS4. Microsoft PO'd me with their original plan, and maybe more important EA seems to be hedging more on the XBone. If I can do anything, it's hold an absurd grudge against video game companies that have slighted me, directly or otherwise. There will be no forgiveness until EA gives me my refund or fixes my ME3!

... That is dumb.

The only reason to get a specific console is one or more specific games.... What else is going to dictate it?

Well ya I was wanting to play titanfall but im not going to spend $500+ just to play one game! There has to be quite a few games that you'd want to play on that specific console to make it really worth while. Don't wanna buy an xbox one just for one game... Should have worded it better.
