Greetings,

I'm Thorswarhammer. I am brand new to Warhammer 40k and tabletop gaming in general. I have been one of those guys sitting at the table next to you for years playing Magic tcg, Pokemon, WoW, etc. and secretly envied you. I have always been super fascinated by tabletop and have been yearning to start up for years. I am familiar with some of the lore of Warhammer and was first introduced back in late 90's. I really got to get a feel for some of the lore whenever I started playing Dawn of War. I had already been into playing other RTS games before and figured I would give it a try. I thoroughly enjoyed the rich character development and storyline. I found myself favoring the Eldar and Tau races.

So, I recently started doing some research and looking into building an army. My friend's dad plays quite frequently and has a very competitive army. He and my friend finally gave me the final push to start my initial investments. He asked me what army I wanted to build and without hesitation I responded with "Eldar!" He went from a grin to a frown. Apparently, the Eldar is super competitive and a top tier army. I had no idea whenever I told him that, but kudos for me, right? Anyhow, I look forward to starting up my army and all the loads of wonderful advice from you old timers and veterans on here. Feel free to offer any and all advice. I'm not too proud to admit that I'm a long way from being anywhere near pro. lol.

Sincerely,
Thorswarhammer.

From another 40k beginner who just started my first army last year, I'd say play whichever army you like. You'll be spending lots of time painting, staring at them while playing so choose something you would not get bored of seeing.

And welcome!

Welcome, Thor! Play what you like, make a nice themed army, and if it's powerful, it's powerful. I wouldn't sweat that part

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka

Thanks for all the welcomes and warm greetings. I have begun my process of building up the army. It's been a lot of grinding through reading codexes, articles, reviews, etc. I also spent a lot of time (and money -_-) in various stores and on various websites get my army together piece by piece. I think I'm coming along fairly well, but I can't wait to get it all together so I can play. I will probably end up doing some little skirmishes with my girlfriend. She's building up an Ork army at the same time as I'm building up my Eldar army. Update on my army so far:

Baron Sathonyx
12 Jetbike Guardians
8 Warlocks
2 Wave Serpents

Thanks,
