Does anyone have any experience with using the big gribblies that are available to the Nids and what kind of success have you had with them?

Tyranid GC's are pretty poorly balanced... they're way overcosted for what they are, although much of that is due to how unbalanced D-weapons are. Of course, Tyranid GC's don't get any Destroyer options - at best they can shoot using AP3!

The Hierodule is essentially a GC version of the Wraithknight at more than double the point cost. I don't understand why they didn't give this thing either a 2+ save or many more wounds, as it goes down really quickly in most Apoc games. On my first game with one I lost it on turn 1 without moving an inch, and subsequent games haven't really fared much better.

The Hierophant's effectiveness basically comes down to how many Destroyer weapons your opponent is fielding. Sure they can do cool stuff like unload 20 genestealers straight into melee, but that doesn't matter if the £250 model never makes it out of the deployment zone. Remember an opponent can field enough Destroyer shots to kill this in one turn for less points (typically in the form of Warhounds or Revenants).
These used to be really scary in 5E Apoc, when they were unintentionally given a 3+ invuln. FW quickly fixed that error and then some.

On the bright side, the Harridan can be immune to many destroyer weapons as most use a blast which can't be snap-fired at it. Any other weapons will really struggle to hurt it unless the Harridan is first grounded. However, it can also be grounded by lasguns or markerlights, so yeah there's that.

In summary, unless your opponent is cool enough to realise how bad a deal Nids got from 6E Apoc/Escalation (and build his list accordingly) you're probably going to have a bad time. Don't get me wrong, Nids can be a lot of fun in Apoc, it just comes down to how many Turbo-lasers are pointing at them.

I almost feel like Destroyer weapons are too powerful.

No but really, when you can oneshot a Hierophant with them, it might have gone a bit far.

That's disappointing. At least I only paid £56 for my hierophant on eBay. Might give it some time on the tabletop for a giggle.

I've not really heard many good things about D-Weapons at all from anyone, they seem to be pretty universally disliked unless you're that WAAC guy who's fielding the Revenant Titan every chance he gets.

Oh, well!

A huge part of the D-weapon problem stems from Turbo-lasers and Pulsars - which are basically "I-win" super-weapons that don't cost any extra points to pick. Anyone who doesn't take these options when they have the chance must be feeling very magnanimous.

You should still have a good time against other Apoc weapons or units. A £56 Hierophant is a really good deal for such a nice model, and it will still be scary against most super-heavies.

Yeah it was delivered this morning, pretty amazing deal considering I set my max bid at like £150 and later got an e-mail saying it was a £46 win plus £10 postage.

So it's only very specific weapons that the big gribblies should really be scared of then? Other than that they're not too bad?

An actual ebay cost quite accurately displays the usefullness of models

Ironically, most of the models for us on Apocalypse are fairly cheap on Ebay.Might just have to pick me up a couple of the cheap ones I have found recently. But on a wider note, they are not bad, but not the best units. THe Harridan is semi decent in the fact that it's immune to most D weapons other models can field.

"There is a cancer eating at the Imperium. With each decade it advances deeper, leaving drained, dead worlds in its wake. This horror, this abomination, has thought and purpose that functions on an unimaginable, galactic scale and all we can do is try to stop the swarms of bioengineered monsters it unleashes upon us by instinct. We have given the horror a name to salve our fears; we call it the Tyranid race, but if is aware of us at all it must know us only as Prey."
