So this will be my first attempt at miniature painting and I figured if I kept a WIP going it would be motivation. Just adding a couple pics of the primed models. Nothing fancy or conversions involved.
I went with black primer as I heard it was the most forgiving.

I did the first layer on my two Khador warjacks and a little bit on the Man-O-Wars. Learned a couple of things pretty quick...I should have followed my gut and not put them together before painting. I also do not have a very steady hand.

Did a bit more painting, but this time on my Menoth. Trying to get down a coat or two so that the black doesn't show through and give a good base for detail. Not super happy with how things are coming along, but I think that's due to my not having painted miniatures before and this being a real learning process.
Pictures aren't that great due to using my phone.

Looks like a good start, having painted the Warmachine 2 player starter myself the cinerators will be a real pain. I did mine un-assembled and they were still lethal.
Some unsolicited advice, the black primer on the Menoth will make the white 10X harder. That said black primer will hide small areas you miss if you have a solid base. Black is good for hiding small mistakes and dark color schemes, grey is good for minimal effect on the final look, and white is good for bright color schemes.
Also what the h are you using for red? Even the best coverage I've gotten on bright red needs 4-5 coats over grey/white. For black even dark reds need even more work.

Assembling them before painting has proven tough. Especially getting to parts behind the shields.
Any advice is good and helpful. I actually picked up a Cryx starter box today to try some new things on.
The red is a water downed Khador Red Base from P3. That is after one coat, but I will be putting on a second as well.
Edit: I bought the P3 paint sets that correspond with the factions and the main iron kingdoms set. I figured I would just paint according to their default color schemes.

Well dang! With results like that I realy need to figure out how to get P3 into dropper bottles.
Currently I avoid them because I hate flip-tops.

Worked a bit more on the armies. Did a second layer on both Menoth and Khador. I also went over them with a dry brush to bring out some detail and break up the black primer so it's easier to work with. I also started painting up the first layer on the Cryx. It was super dark and somewhat difficult to see due to the black primer.
I have some new brushes that I am fooling around with and it helps, but they can only due so much. I've got to work towards steadier hands and slower strokes.

Looks good so far.
Something that will help with shaky hands is if you hold your model in one hand with your fingers(i know it sounds odd to describe it that way but bear with me )
Then rest your other hand on your wrist and paint with your brush held like a pencil just with index finger and thumb then you can shake all you want and your hands anchor each other and you paint smoother.
that might help on smaller ones maybe not the warjacks tho
