This may have been asked before, but has anyone thought of a way to incorporate focus counting as part of the caster and jack base?

I considered "pitting" around the outside of the base and using colored bead over a thin piece of wire. Then I figured I could just be lazy and buy a theme pack.

i was thinking something along the lines of heroclix. but obviously a little more basic bc you really on need numbers 1-3 for jack and 1-6 for caster

I saw a 40K orc army that had wire poles and tiny skull beads for the wounds. It looked like part of a larger trophy/banner pole.

You might be able to do something similar depending on what faction you were working on.

Cygnar: Lightning Charges/beads
Circle: Skulls or "blood" beads
Cryx: green "soul" beads

etcetc.

And it only works for casters with a low FOC stat of 6 at the most. eHaley and the like will need something else entirely.

I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...

My first answer was honestly the Heroclix Mech Warrior stuff. They used a little dial to represent "heat buildup". You can see it on the base in this picture. I bet you could buy some of these models pretty cheap then snap the heat counter off and do some paint magic to re-purpose it.

EDIT: I realized that this probably isn't very clear to people who aren't already familiar with the game. See the little plastic box to the right of the traditional "revolving base" stuff? That little plastic handle off the back lets you turn the cylinder in the box. You can just bearly make out some numbers like "-1 -1 -1" on the cylinder. You could paint over that with the focus numbers. Not entirely sure how many positions you can get out of one though. They were pretty well defined on where you could turn them.

Seems like too much work when you can just use colored beads or focus tokens.

As an opponent, I wouldn't want to have to squint to see what the little numbers on the base were. Much easier if you have actual focus tokens or some other similarly sized item to represent the focus/fury.

"gold" doubloons for focus would be awesome.

Just use your winners medals from previous steamroller tournaments as focus tokens. Has the double benefit of unnerving your opponent when you're casters focus is represented by six or seven first place gold medals!

I considered this but then I would have to buy new coasters.

Yeah... I'll just use the stackable focus counters. They're easy to see, don't take up much room on the table, and all the other spell and status effect tokens are handy.

They are really nice. But everyone and their mother uses them. I like ones that are unique.

im not suggesting that these are not great counters, and they are what I use now. the reason for the post wasnt for a suggestion of doing the same thing as everyone else. The post was for ideas of a different way
