I play works so obviously a stomps and my friend plays IG, I was wondering if it would be best to target the enemy super heavy or to spread my fire out. Any advice would be great, thanks in advance

Depends on what does more damage. My ranking is always 1 what will cripple my own ability to score (Kelly I cannot ignore), 2 their scoring, and 3 SH. So if depends on the armies and missions.

SH should be treated much like a tank would be in a small-scale game of "big guns"

If you can-take it out, but its not your primary concern unless it can threaten your game plan.

Now, if you got no SH, and they do, you can make assesment-do they have ample scoring?
If the answer is "no", feel free to take out the scoring, and then the SH, and go for the win over secondaries.

It really depends on the situation.
What they have except the SH, what you got, whats the mission, etc...
There is no one finite answer.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

Keep in mind SH are worth 1 VP per 3 HP stripped. You actually can win games by destroying a SH.

I belive it's only that if you play the escallation game types.

As for back to the point,
ignore the super heavy! It's a big point sink (most of the times) if you take of the rest your opoment can't score anything and hide the rest of the game

Well.. that's what my opoment did with his eldar when i brought stompa + greentide xD
