Hi
Been seeing some stuff about the new imperial knight and just wondered what the status of its rules is. It doesnt seem to be in the codex, and also i found it wasnt in the escalation either (suprised me) so is this something where the rules are wholely within white dwarf or are the rules expected in another suppliment, or even online pdf?

Are we going back to the rogue trader days of having a pile of white dwarf rules as well as main rulebooks? Do we have to buy white dwarf now for new rules?

Thanks

As of right now all of their rules are in the White Dwarf with no news of a Codex.

That's really good news. I thought they would bring out a new supplement for 26 to 39 € to ''sell'' the rules.

Short rules in the current WD, but there will be an official "Codex Knights" in second or third week.

Don't get me wrong, I think that there is def a lot of expanding that can be done to their rules in the WD as they are extremely Short. However, I have seen nothing to indicate that there is a Codex only a few weeks away. The sad part of it is that despite the fact that the rules for the knights are short and simple they are basic enough that GW could drag their feet several months on a Codex and people will still use them just fine.

Well, if Kroot says so, it will be the case with high probability.

Thanks folks,
So if there is a codex will it be a fully independant army or able to attatch to, say, space marines?

As far as I understand, they already are fully independent. You can take them as an allied detachment, or, if I have understood correctly, take an entire army of Knights.

I think it attaches like allies.

I would assume that GW will use the same policy as with last month's dwarves, that they first release some models with no news of a codex and in the third or fourth week they will release the codex itself.

My armies:
vior'la sept 12k
Erik Morkai's great company 6k
dark mechanicus, the dearth of hope, 8k
rothwyr morwan's company 1,5k
Adeptus custodes 2k
AoS, The forgotten order, SE, 3k

I'm actually going to wait for proper rules before I buy one. I assume the "1-3 as allied and 3-6 as army" will change and we'll be given a proper list of who can take them and whatnot.

If it's truly 3-6 as an army, that's frakking stupid, it will make for the worst game ever. The 1500 of the 2000pts of models you bought that DON'T have S6 or higher will be completely pointless against such an army.

Well, this will shift the meta. You will have to consider S6 or higher weapons. An army of Knight can be hard to beat.

It will just be silly. So many units will just become fodder units because they can't actually hurt anything. People already complain about monobuilds, last thing we need is for everything less than S6 to be rendered useless (realistically S7, because they have 13 front armour and move fast enough to rarely expose their sides and rear).

All sounds interesting.

I like the model and so may buy one for how good it looks, and would be nice if i can attach it to my space wolves.

However, with so many codexes still to revise and already a huge thick main rulebook (plus armageddon, death skies, escalation etc) I do think it will get silly if GW start releasing stuff where the rules are all over the place.

An independant codex would be pretty good, as long as it isnt over-bloated with content considering the small scope of knights, and also as well as the cost reflects a slimmer more compact volume. What are the odds huh?

I think I will wait a few weeks and see what happens regarding a codex (while saving up)
Thanks for the advice

As I said in another thread....

The White Dwarf "Using Imperial Knights" says you can field them as an army in their own right, as a primary detachment of 3-6 Knights, or allies as 3 Knights. OK... Can they ally with everyone then? There is no ally matrix for them, and they are a new "army". Are they counted as HQ, Troops, Elites, FA, Heavy? Are they a Lords of War choice? Is each model a separate unit, or do they all form one unit and must have coherency? Or do they follow the rules for vehicle coherency? Which one is a Warlord, and do we really get to roll on the Warlord table? How do they deploy? The rules entry in White Dwarf also seems redundant and missing rules. It lists the Knight as a Vehicle (Super-heavy Walker) then lists all the special rules a Super-heavy Walker has (Fear, Hammer of Wrath, etc). But then it says nothing about what the rules are for Super-heavy Walkers! You have to dig out your Escalation or Apoc book for that.

Wait, did I just quote myself?

Well, it seems that GW had no real plan about the Knight. Release first, then think about what went wrong, and finally issue errata/faq.

maybe the rules will be in the box like with the fortifications? WHo knows, i heard about a possible mechanicus army so maybe they would be included in an online mechanicus army supplement like Inquisitor. By that i mean its mostly old units repackaged for use by the army (so lots of Imperial Guard type stuff, i.e. Skittari will be something similar to a guardsman stat line and options). Thats my take on the whole thing.

17,000 points (Valhallan)
10,000 points
6,000 points (Order of Our Martyred Lady)
Proud Countess of House Terryn hosting 7 Knights, 2 Dominus Knights, and 8 Armigers
Stormcast Eternals: 7,000 points

Personally I think it should be easy to find rules for something, not have to scan across numerous suppliments, dataslates, white-dwarfs, in-box rules etc

I like the idea of reading up on something before deciding if to buy it, which was easier in the days of less rules and less codexes.

Gets difficult when rules are spread out too much.

So I guess a new (slimline, cheap) codex would make it most accessible.

I wonder why they didnt include them in escalation or armageddon as most of everything else big is covered between them and its not like the Knights are a new idea.

Thanks to all the good info and opinion posts in this thread people.

wonder if they will go down the line of tear out and pre punched rules in the WD and they you can purchase a folder to store them in.

I expect a dataslate fairly soon after release.

If the thought of something makes me giggle for longer than 15 seconds, I am to assume that I am not allowed to do it.

Maybe I can find my Trapper Keeper from 1982 to hold them? I think we are in the age of the dataslate. Keep it digital. Paper is old school.

I saw on the rumor mill that the codex is coming out the 8th for $75.I hope this is not true because if it is I think GW is going to be testing to see if they can raise the prices of codexs again.

You guys know there's a thread with all these details already right?

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/579689.page

And it isn't $75. It is $41 for the codex. There's another 'Companion' book for $75.
