Hey everyone,
Yesterday I was messing around with building some terrain and realized I am lacking trees. I took out some thick wire and made some knarled looking trees. I just took about 6-8 cuts of wire (8 inches long for 2 trees and 5 inches for another) and I twisted them together to make a truck, roots and then twisted the wires at the top in bunches of 2 for the branches.
Turned out great but now I need to know what I should do to make the bark?

I was thinking either some polyfil over the entire thing because I could texture it fairly well.
I just don't know if that is the way I should go or not because it might be hard to get a nice looking texture using that technique.
After I plan on painting them brown/grey and gluing on some bunches of flock.

Any ideas?

Check the tutorials section with the lava board that's been bumped up today. The "wood" was made from plaster cast tissue.

How posh polyfilla will work but so will masking tape. less artsy far easier alternatively both.

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

Have access to any craft stores? It's a fairly common item. Kids use it in art classes (at least, we did when I was a youngin') and for dioramas/science fairs (plaster cloth has replaced (news)paper mache as the standard material for building crappy "working" volcano models), model railroaders use it to skin over the skeleton of hills in their layouts, etc. Pretty sure I've even seen it in the little arts and crafts aisle at Walmart - I imagine you can find a Canadian equivalent without having to travel far.
