Can anyone recommend a good weapon to put on an Ork Loota as a conversion? Something that fits somewhat easily? With only 4 actual "Deff Guns" in each kit, I heard a guy at my local store just say to convert any gun I like onto a loota and treat it as a Deff Gun during games.

That's the beauty of the Loota philosophy - they'll loot anything. One rather common practice is to take extra weapon barrels, rockets, etc. and strap them onto a shoota. Looks nothing like the deffguns that come in the kit, lacking the shoulder mounting and extended framework, but a gun with three barrels and a rocket is unlikely to be confused for anything else. It also avoids many fit issues, if you use reasonably sized attachments (bolters, lasguns, extra shoota barrels, etc.), since the base is made of Ork parts that are meant to go together.

Just build a shoota boy, add some extra weapon gubbins, and you've got a Loota (same holds for Flash Gits, if using Nob parts, instead). I've yet to hear any grumblings about WYSIWYG sticklers from those that have done so, so I'd wager such a conversion would be pretty widely, if not universally, accepted, especially if mixed into units built with the official kit.

You could glue a couple of the 'Big Shootas' together from the Ork Boyz box along with some spare bits to make it look bulky. Or you could take the Shootas from the Boyz box and rig up something. Pretty much anything that looks like a big gun barrel(s) with extra bits attached to make it look large and heavy.

If you don't mind using ebay, you can get spare Deffgunz (Including frame and left arm) for around $3 each from the bitz sellers. You can also get spare torsos and legs to make the burnas for pretty cheap.

Although the standard lootas' weapon frame/harness is nice, and helps visually differentiate lootas from other boyz, it's not necessary to make a Deffgun look like that. IMHO, a Deffgun should simply look like a large weapon, clearly not a rokkit or big shoota (to avoid confusion), and preferably like some other race's heavy weapon that's been looted and repaired/improved.

So it's probably best not to use heavy bolters or missile launchers, but almost anything else can be used - I've seen everything from assault cannon to autocannon to Eldar guns, all orkified with extra rivets and gizmos by enthusiastic meks.

Well. Guess it sounds like I'm going to hit up my local store and see if I can dig through people's bit boxes. I have a boy completely painted as a Big Shoota. Wouldn't be hard to add some bits to his gun and call him a Loota! Thanks all!

Honestly, I don't like the framed design of the Loota/Burna-kits. Tau have some quad-barelled thing for their crisis suits which does look great on orks too. Just scramble yourself something ded-killy and go for it.
