next to a stop sign

The situation came up recently during a game with Chaos Space Marines versus Orks = during the CSM turn a Daemon Prince ( Black Mace ) charged a unit of 30 Boyz - the combat and effects carry through until the Ork player's turn: at which point ( end of the Assault phase ) the side effect of the Black Mace ( toughness test ) removed each model that was in base contact with the Daemon Prince, along with a few others inside the kill zone = all that remained was a wounded Nob and three other Boyz. S o o o ...

...what happens next at the start of the Chaos Space Marine player's turn ? Is the Daemon Prince able to move freely that turn ? Or is the model still locked in combat with the Ork unit - thus pile in at Initiative step, etc ?

Similar circumstances came up by comparrison e.g. a scattered blast on to models locked in combat = removing those that were engaged ... by the time the assault phase begins, are the remaining models still considered to be in close combat, or can they declare a charge on the same / new unit ?

You only disengage from a combat with still has enemies in it if the post combat pile in move won't enough to make it into base contact. Since that wasn't the case you are still locked in combat
