Anyone know of any good cheap/affordable lists that could do well in a battle or even a tournament? It doesn't matter really which army it is, but just so it could be considered a sort of budget army. Any ideas? Also, check out my other post about re-vamping my sm army, it needs a few ideas, so i'm open for ideas!

I think you can have a functioning Draigo-lead Paladin list with something like 17 models.

I second grey knights.

You could also try deathwing, but I think grey knights are cheaper money wise.

Eldar you can make a pretty "cheap" ghost warrior army out of
farseer, ghost warrior formation box, 3 wave serpents, 2 spirit seers.

Without any discounts that would be about $475 usd before tax, without any discounts.

would give you
1 farseer
2 spiritseers
3 wraithguard squads
2 wraithlords
1 wraithknight
3 wave serpents

would be about 1500 points after a few common basic wargear and vehicle upgrades.

You can get a decent chaos demons force for around 400 usd as well, since all of the models are pretty much plastic, and many of the things are expensive pointswise.

But honestly draigo paladin army is the cheapest by far to purchase.

Deathwing army using Ebay and other local forum sale sites.

Um flying circus daemons, I would have thought... Low model count anyway.

I built my Nids with a Big "Battle" box and a box of Warriors, a Box of Stealers, and a Trygon. Then added stuff here and there...

I think right now the "big box" is "swarm" with 40 Hormies, 40 Termies, 10 Gargoyles, and a Carnifex. Buy a Hive Tyrant, (or two) and a Tyranofex/Terv and you are solid for a good long while...(I'd add some Warriors, or Zoeys...)

Bu where could i find some cheap grey knight termi's , (2 squads, most likely) for the grey knight list, i was almost thinking that it could also look like this-

1 thunderfire cannon
Maybe 2 squads of grey knight troopers?

Dantewing and Deathwing are both cheap.

DW terminators are cheap on their own because they come in the starter box set. You can probably build a solid list for $150

Dantewing is cheap because Sanguinary Guard are basically terminators for $33 a box instead of $50 a box. You can buy Dante and a Sang Priest for about $40 and 4 boxes of Sanguinary Guard for $132 and build a 1500 pt list. That's only $175

It's peretty cheap to make a footslogging tactical-marine list if you spend some time on ebay. Basically, stuff that's not working really good is cheap to buy. Besides, there are tons of aobr tacticals for sale.
I'd not say tacticals are bad but they're not considered a competitive choice. Especially when you pack lots of them. I believe you can buy around 40 painted tactical marines for 100-150$ with ease. Aobr chaptain is dirt cheap either.
You're not geting a competitive army but they're gona be nice to play and will have uses with rhinos and droppods if you'll decide to expand the collection later. Also you could convert them to sternguard without much effort.

Buy an Inquisitor. Put him on the board. Laugh as you brought 12 dollars (And 25 points) as your entire army.

That's called trolling, though you will struggle fighting nids at 12pts.

The best budget army is by far the flying circus, with a small model count and heaps of conversion opportunity making them extremely cheap to run. If you are a confident converter then buying 2 daemon Prince boxes should happily set you with 3 daemon princes and with some mixing and matching. Due to the nature of daemons most conversions are easily justified. Yes sir, that floating flaming multi coloured goat shark is a daemonic Herald, can't you tell? Add that to the fact daemons are one of the most competitive armies there are right now it really puts design wing into the dust when you think about it.

that 1745 points. no conversions its 42 +42 + 57 + 37 + 75 + 10 + 30 + 30= $286. after discounts lets call it 15% easy(very easy to get overall on this) its 243 for a competitive army. Daemon flying circus is the only competitive cheap army but do note you will need a few other models due to daemons rules (they spawn models with portalglyph, double 6 on warpstorm, herald on 11 of the warpstorm table) . So thats additional but at worst its another 2 boxes of troops which still leaves you bellow 300)
