So, i've been working on my 'banner of Staganda' for my Sentinels of terra and it has been one of the most hellish painting experiences of my life :/

What it should look like:

what it looks like at the moment:

Has anyone got any tips for making it look better?

Cheers for reading

Its not bad but the scale is off.

If you have no issues redoing it, try penciling it out first to get the scale right then re try it. otherwise if that would be too much you could add more decorations around the side like laurels and skulls (can always use more skulls)

Edit: VVVVV that too.

I like to cheat by printing an outline on clear decal paper if the proportions or accuracy are important.

On flat stuff if its small and fiddly i print paint and stick on... I dont think my idea would work for you but winterdyne's and Desubot's suggestions would work really well for you.

BTW I think yuor banner looks great

Thanks for the comments guys.

i like the idea of adding laurels around it. I dont really want to attempt it again lol, so a sharpening of details and some little details around it might perk it up a bit

You did a pretty darn good job of free handing that. I think that outlining it with a thin line of black would improve the way it looks. Just make sure its really reallllllly REALLLLY thin or it might not look good. Embellishing the free space with skulls or laurels also sounds like a fantastic idea.

Looks great but, you can eliminate all of that by just making your own printed decals. Plenty of templates on the web as well.

First try drawing it on a piece of paper. Pratice the design until you're happy with it. Then draw it onto the model either with a pencil or a permanent ultra fine technical pen.

It's also a good idea to do the bright colours first as dark colours cover lighter shades better than the other way around. Use the background colour to neaten up any edges you think you mucked up. Also pencil may still show through the paint if you use thin coats - this is good as it will help you get a really accurate image.
