I know that IG have specific tank regiments (Only War) so I was wondering how many tanks it would number typically.

Unless I've missed a retcon Guard regiments across the board tend to number 5-20 companies. Standard IG tank company size is 10 tanks, so you're looking at 50-200 tanks.

I just so happen to have my copy of IA1:2ed on my lap. So, let us look at a case study:

19th Konig Armoured Regiment, Icaedus campaign

Partial TO & E

45 Leman Russ - Comprising of four armoured companies and 5 regimental defence tanks.
10 Demolisher
12 Basilisk
9 Hydra
11 Sentinels
9 Sentinel Powerlifters
13 Salamanders
3 Destroyers
3 Medusa
9 Cyclops
3 Bridges
94 Chimera - Including several mechanised infantry companies, engineers company, signals and quartermasters.
35 Trojans
6 Atlas
3 Baneblades
1 Shadowsword

Exact types may vary, eg. russ may mean exterminator, basilisk can mean griffin etc.

So, looking at this it seems that the actual "armoured company" part of the regiment is only around 50 tanks out of 266. The vast bulk of the regiment comprises of the logistical and support elements.

Of course, the Guard is such a large and varied organisation that pretty much anything is possible.

Wow... Thanks a lot for this list Trickstick! I've actually been spending a long time with building an Armored regiment for a while now.

No problem, it was actually quite interesting to look up and learn about. I'm making my own armoured regiment too. In fact, I just finished painting my command vanquisher this evening. It is fun to field an army of tanks, although I usually take a vulture gunship to support.
