Does any one know of a cheaper primer than the GW ones . The army painter ones are almost the same but is there a cheaper brand?

Heard a lot about the primers from Halfords, they are meant to be pretty good! And definitely a lot cheaper than the official primers for miniatures.

Befriend someone who works at halfords and you can then get 25% discount off them as well
I have used some of the coloured matt primers that halfords stock and they are not too bad, they take a couple of coats to get good coverage but that is no bad thing as it also means the layer is not too thick.

Cheapest primer per volume I think is Vallejo polyurethane airbrush primer that comes in 200ml bottles. That said, we don't have walmart in Australia so I don't think we get the ridiculously cheap rattle can primers. Even if we did, I still think I'd prefer to use the still cost-effective but much more controllable airbrush primer. Rattle can primers are often more subject to weather, and more likely to lay on too thick a coat from what I've seen but it could just be personal preference. Pretty sure Vallejo has a range of coloured primers, but I've only used white, grey and black. It's worth noting you can brush on the vallejo primers, but they're of course much smoother and quicker when applied with an airbrush.

Do a search on "spray primer" as this topic comes up, a LOT.
I do recall halfords coming up a lot.
I love the vallejo airbrush surface primers, they are a amazing - one note - they take a while to cure completely (at least 24 hours).
Best of luck!

I use the satin black spray paint from halfords. Works realy well. There primer range can be a bit thick. It comes in a large can for less than the GW stuff to, which is nice.
Hope that helps.
