Subject: Tau using Imperial Knight ally viable?

BoLS recent article says that Tau may be Desperate Allies when it comes to Imperial Knights, I was hoping to run one with my Farsight Enclaves. Do you guys think it's worth the risk of being Desperate Allies?

Koooaei, how was your post in any way tactics-related?
Anyway, I would say its not worth the bother. the knight simply does not play the same game the FE army does. they don't mix very well.
Though I would assume that a "riptide farsight" conversion for the knight WOULD look cool.

I think I may have to do a Farsight Enclave conversion the because regardless! I just realized though that the desperate allies rule may be for the Imperium Imperial Knighte. Maybe Freeblades can go with anyone!

Well, its a bit early to tell.
Wait till we actually SEE the codex, then we'll know.

yeah, honestly if I played a non-Imperial army I'd hold off buying a knight until the codex is out 160 is a bit pricy to gamble with

Possible? Sure! Viable? Not so much.
What does the Knight bring? A 2 shot battle cannon, a large blast melta and some close combat AT. A cheaper riptide mixes the melta with the battle cannon to get the ion accelerator which is large blast, only 1 shot but has possible ordinance an longer range then the melta. MC's are more survivable then walkers, just a fact, he can move about as fast with the jump jets and *can* have a better invul. Extra melee prowess, did you riptide intend to be in combat anyway? Why spend loads on a desperate ally when you can spend slightly less loads on a perfectly fine Riptide?

Seeing as all of the Tau buff abilities require one ot be form their codex or joining an independent character to a unit, an Imperial Knight is not losing out on any benefits from allying with the Tau. As the Imperial knight has no benefits to share, the Tau lose out on no potential bonuses from allying with it.
The big thing is to keep the units far enough apart to avoid the penalty for being desperate allies. Seeing as what happens to a Imperial Knight when it gets killed, you'd want to keep your boys far away anyway.
So yeah, there isn't really a practical downside to them being Desperate Allies.

Its fluffier than having them with every other imperial faction since they exist on remote worlds ritually challenging exodite knights.
As for use, meh, Tau have enough expensive toys, about the only thing a knight adds is a tough close combat unit to an army that doesn't rely on close combat.

If you dont short hand your list, Im not reading it.
Example: Assault Intercessors- x5 -Thunder hammer and plasma pistol on sgt.
or Assault Terminators 3xTH/SS, 2xLCs
For the love of God, GW, get rid of reroll mechanics. ALL OF THEM! |

I wouldn't, although the one eye open rule it doesn't effect Tau that badly as other armies. I haven't seen the rules for the knights myself but I see it as a huge moving target, might put less strain on other units.
As you said before the $150USD is a lot, you can almost buy two Riptides with that money, and those for sure are nasty.

Only if you had very low self esteem would I recommend allying in a Knight with Farsight Enclaves.

So how does this Knight gak work? Assumingly its escalation only (aka, normal 40k...) but I'm thinking you can take a Superheavy in your primary and then take another one as an Imperial Knight?
Regardless, not impressed at yet another bs mini-dex thats Come the Apocalypse for Orks but usable by Eldar and Tau, and that they're adding such nonsense when my boyz (and other armies too) are sitting on ancient codexes.
