Hi guys

I have a kill team tournament next weekend and was looking for some advice on my list, I am a complete noob to kill team so If I make mistakes please feel free to correct me. I was just going to use Hormagaunts and abuse the fact they count as solitary units and will get a 1/6 chance of rage without eating each other. but I put the shrikes in there to give them a bit of a speed boost because they don't get to run when they are on instinctive behaviour, so tactics are get as close as possible and let the Hormagaunts rage out.

Hormagaunt Brood (95pts) (1X USR:FLESHBANE)
19x Hormagaunt (95pts)
19x Scything Talons

Tyranid Shrike Brood (105pts)

Tyranid Shrike (USR: RAGE)
Devourer, Rending Claws

Tyranid Shrike (LEADER)
Devourer, Scything Talons

Tyranid Shrike (USR:IGNORES COVER)
Barbed Strangler, Scything Talons

TOTAL 200pts

would have used zoanthropes instead of shrikes but they are super slow and I don't think they get psychic powers because they are now brotherhood of psychers and kill team doesn't allow that, any ideas?. any comments would be really appreciated, even if you think its a solid list. thanks for looking.

I think this list looks really good.

I would recommend dropping the barbed strangler and the rending claws and just using those points for more bodies. Tyranids win kill team through numbers. With those points, you could get 2 or 3 more horms (I can't remember the exact math without my codex).

Good luck! Let us know how it goes.

If you're taking scything talons, I think you're better off going Shred than Fleshbane, right? Might be a slightly lower chance of scoring to-wound but it increases your chance of landing a 6 to ignore armor. Maybe I'm thinking Rending Claws. Sorry for not being up to date with Nids. :(

I don't know much about the Shrikes. What's their statline like? If they are multi-wound but only T4, I recommend making one of them Eternal Warrior or someone with a Missile Launcher or Lascannon will crunch it out of existence as soon as they fire their gun.

If you can swap weapons around to bring anyone capable of hurting light armor in shooting I'd recommend doing that too because right now, you're praying for 6s in your assault phase for glances on Rhinos or Speeders. Despite only having only 5 guys, I think I'd do just fine against that list simply because of a Rhino with two guys with Heavy Flamers popping out the top, which because each guy is independent means I get to fire them out of both the firing hatches at different targets.

Zoanthropes still get powers, even if there is only one in the brood. In Kill Team though you never get more than a single shot warp lance from any of them.

Thanks for the replies guys, Yeh I have been worrying about light armor and how to deal with it.There is only so much in the nids armory at this level but if zoanthropes can use there powers I will run a list with one in to deal with marines and light armour. This will bring me down to just 10 hormagaunts though and as someone has mentioned nids love larger numbers so I will see what I can do I might be better off getting termagants, definately going to give the shrike with the strangler eternal warrior because ap5 sucks anyway and drop the extra rending claws.
Will post a list up after work.

completely tweaked the list to get a zoanthrope in, this is the final list i will be running:

o Zoanthrope (50pts) Weapon specialist (USR ignores cover)

o 10x Hormagaunt (50pts)
10x Scything Talons

o Tyranid Shrike Dirty fighter specialist (USR Rending)
Devourer, Scything Talons

o Tyranid Shrike LEADER
Devourer, Scything Talons

o Tyranid Shrike with heavy weapon Indomitable specialist (USR Eternal warrior)
Barbed Strangler , Scything Talons

I believe with this list it should be in good stead to control most phases, it has the speed, area covering fire power and half decent assault. let me know what you think and i will let you know how i get on after the weekend.
