I was thinking of simply using the rules for LOTR SBG for this, but was wondering if there was actually any GoT games around.

If you're ok with hex-based games, Fantasy Flight Games has Battles of Westeros:



It's partially based on the critically acclaimed Command and Colors system of Richard Borg, with a few twists - no card activations, for example. It's good for Stark on Lannister action. They also had an expansion which introduced House Baratheon into the mix.

Horde of the Things is also generic enough to be used.

There's a boardgame with small figures (I think FFG produces it) but I'm not aware of any real miniatures games that do it. I suppose it wouldn't be that hard to use a historical system to represent it.

Dark Sword do a miniatures line, but I've never heard of a tabletop game for them.

Battles of Westeros is a fun game. If you do not want hexes, the game can easily be converted to be used with a ruler. 1 hex movement = 2 inches for example.

Plays a lot like any other command and color system. Some Main characters are represented each with their own special abilities and the moral tracker makes the game unique for scenario play.

I know there is some fan created material for SAGA for Lannisters and Starks. I keep meaning to try those bands out.

Lots of board and card games but no 28mm tabletop wargame as far as i know.

Maybe a relevant question would be: what's the best system to accomodate a Westeros battle? I am making a Lannister army and a Stark one and I'm looking at Kings of War (there's a fanmade medieval version), but I'm open to other choices.

You'd probably do well adapting a historical Wargames system.

My dad's been playing those with his group. They seem to be enjoying them a lot.

I think most fantasy or Medieval game would work well. It depends only on what size game and what kind of game experience you want.

To the OP:
What scope and level of complexity are you looking for?

LoTR SBG or Saga are probably good choices for medium size skirmishes. Once you get to Company level or higher, there are alot of fantasy and Medieval choices. The KoW medieval would be my suggestion as I really like the KoW rules.

I've seen a fair number of folks on Lead Adventure working on GoT armies, though I don't recall offhand what rules they are planning on using. If you base your figures on 20mm squares there are multitude of rules sets you could try by changing the size of the movement trays or "elements". I'd recommend trying multiple rulesets until you find one that fits you.
