Dakkaflyrant

5 warriors
20 gargoyles
harpy
2x1 venomthropes
2 zoans

This seems like a pretty decent list. However, I don't think you are getting the most out of your elites. You really don't want 3 venoms in 1 squad. You want units of 1 (maybe 2) to spread out in your swarm. Having 3 together is just a waste of points. I would drop the hive guard, as they don't really have much synergy with this list, and instead take 2 squads of 1 venoms. That will save you a ton of points and will actually cover your army better than one squad of 3.
I would also drop all the toxin on the horms. While the toxin sacs are nice, point wise they will rarely do better than just having more bodies on the field. I would run the 20 gargoyles in front for screening, followed by 3 squads of 30 horms. You can just flood your opponents with bodies, and your horms will get great cover saves for the first 2 turns due to intervening models and +2 from venoms.
With w/e points you have left, I would try to turn your carnifexes into dakkafexes. 12 twin-linked S6 shots from EACH model is amazing, and they will still be beasts in combat when they make it across the table.
All together, this will put you 5 points over. So just drop 1 horm and you are all set. You will have a good mix of swarm and monster with over 100 little guys with +2 to cover and plenty of synapse, along with 2 FMCS, and 5 MCs.

Dakkaflyrant
60 hormogaunts with toxin (either 3x20 or 4x15)
5 warriors
20 gargoyles
harpy
3 venomthropes
2 zoans
3 hive guard
3 fexes
2 mawlocs

At 2000 points I say "fatally short on Synapse" at high point games Synapse hunting is a prefered way to beat Nids. I am only counting 3? Its extra a "big deal" because you're spcializing in swarmey units.
Some of this is just "my way" but I'd drop the Hive Guard, and put in more Zoeys. And look at one more unit of Warriors perhaps.
If you get Hive commander, you can Outflank the big Brood of Warriors and keep a 3 Warrior brood back to help herd the Hormies.
Also a "high point game" thing, one Fly'rant is likely too few. You might be happier with two, and if it has Hive Commander as well, you can send a big blob of gaunts on outflank as well. Combine that with two Mawlocs, and you have some serious back field disruption Automatically Appended Next Post: pinecone77 wrote:warren0110 wrote:Like the title says my first list with latest dex so pputting in the units I like the sound of, but wanting advice on how to make it competitive

exactly the sort of input i was after, amended list to reflect your suggestions.
As for the synapse thing there are zoans warriors and flyrant so should be okay given that the warriors and zoans will be able to cover the bulk of the gribbles

At 2k I worry about a solo harpy and flyrant. I think they will be too easy to pick off. You maybe get away with it at 1,500 pts but you need real target saturation to get the harpy especially to earn it's worth. If you only run 2 flyers I'd go dual dakka flyrant if only for the fact they are much more resilient to the aegis quad guns you will find out there. I'd prefer 4 flyers at 2k to be honest but it is possible to play less if you're careful.
If you want those mawlocs in soon and need the venomthropes to live, then bastion with comms relay.
You want the 2 FMCs, 2 mawlocs and those fast hormogaunts and gargoyles to all be in their face at the end of turn two so you can't get picked off piecemeal.

don't see much in the way of ADL w/QG much my way so 2FMC should be ok, obviously if I was looking at the tournament scene I would change a lot of bits but right now im not too worried.
also the boards are normally cover heavy and so im not too worried that I wont get into combat quickly

Will try and get a list up shortly but just played (heavily proxied) vs a tau list with 2 rip tides....ate him him, he spent so much time trying to shoot down the FMC, and rolling poorly, that the hormos and maws literally showed up and just did insane damage. Dakkafexes are awesome but thinking one less mawloc and 3 biovores might do better
