*bursts though room with axe* HEEEAAARRRS JHONNY!!!

Ok so after my Cygnar I am planning to get along with a bit of CoC but was wondering what do they play like? as I see little to no info on how to play them since their inital release..

So what do they play like? what are your thoughts on them? the more info the better

Cheers to all comments

In my experience, they play pretty well. They are one of those factions where you need ~3 pieces to all do their job or else your effectiveness drops through the floor, but they are definitely the army you want to play if you enjoy rubbing your hands together and saying "just as planned".

Also free focus flying around for days. That's always entertaining to pull against someone who hasn't seen them operate. Oh...they laughed at me for bringing 3 light jacks instead of a squad of infantry...I'll show them...I'll show them all!

They play like a machine, where every part contributes to the end result.

If any part fails its task the whole machine falls apart.

It is hard to describe exactly how they play because of all the little intricacies. Only way to really figure it out is to play them and read their rules. Like all warmachine factions, skill is what determines who wins.

I picked up the battlebox when my FLGS put it on sale, and its been my first warmachine faction so far. Ive gotta say, its kinda annoying how often people spout the 'cogs in a machine' analogy. The rules are interesting, but my no means does everything have to go exactly as you planned it out for things to work.

The battle box comes with a pretty nice caster, with handy spells, good feat, and a powerful heavy warjack. He upkeeps spells on his group for free, and has a decent focus stat.

You'll find that you tend to have to play your army a little more bunched up than most others in order to maximize on the focus induction mechanic, but when you need too, you can always do like every other faction in the game and toss out focus where you need it during your control phase instead of getting a nosebleed trying to plan everything out in your control phase.

There's a bit of trouble with flag/objective scenarios with convergence, because the army tends to be a bit slow until you start doing buffed up charges. Similarly, the focus induction problem I mentioned before (where you want to stay bunched up) usually means that you have trouble having a presence on two separate parts of the board at once. You can mitigate this by taking angels, but they don't have much toughness to hold up against blast-spam and the like.

They play a very strong game when the scenario depends on being in a small area however. Armor values tend to be high, and when the scenario favors bunching up, you can usually guarantee that you will have enough focus for all of your jacks to be doing something that would be too expencive for another faction.

Similarly, the overall stats of the army tend to be on the lower side of average; which isnt bad considering they have allot of mechanics to boost things when you need them boosted (effects that increase charge range, effects that reduce enemy defense/speed, and the proiferation of focus to boost things when they are absolutely needed).

The induction mechanic is strange; But the important thing is to not buy into the hype about 'a single mistake ruins the machine'. When it works out, you get to do things like run all your jacks using a single focus, Or buying an extra shot/boost for most of your battle group without having to pay for any but the first. When it doesn't work however (say you need to activate out of order) not a single thing stops you from allocating to your battlegroup in the way every other war caster does. Crying that a focus is going to die without being inducted somewhere else is winging over spilled milk. Better sometimes that a focus burns out, than you pigeonhole your army in a small packet in order to garuntee that you can induct 100% of what you send out.

Aurora plays a mean assassination run list.

Syntherion with two cyphers cycling hot shot between then is absurdly good at erasing high defence units from the table, and he does with three focus what would cost any other warcaster six. Not to mention, when you don't want to cycle the hot shot, Cypher no2 can always lay down rough terrain to block advancing enemies.

-Plays spread out objective based games a little weak, and are slow to get to the important areas. Cryx is a hard opponent when the game calls for scoring on more than one or two places.
-Plays tight groups holding small areas very well. If all you have to do is guarantee presence in a zone, people will have a hard time dislodging you unless you make some big mistakes.
-Makes judicious use of buffs to offset low-ish stats in speed/mat/rat
-Has a hard time dealing with matchups against caster that place terrain (owing to the fact that all of the pathfinder jacks are yet to be released)
-Has some 'must have' peices of the army still unreleased; so allot of people feel that they are at a disadvantage in competitions that disallow proxying.

-The Cipher is a badass melon-fether; that guy pulls his weight.

Ok thanks for the heads up guys and gals

Im just wondering what to start as a second faction as I feel I am having a hard time with Cygnar, so I feel as if I need a small break with something easier yet still awesome looking models to play

So I was either thinking of Khador or CoC as I like both the range of models, but unsure which one would be simpler or more fun to play, so what would you guys and gals recommend?

Cheers to all comments and keep 'em coming

Well, a CoC army led by Syntherion and being Vector heavy can do very well at the battle field.
What I dislike is the look of the Vector models. They look pretty strange. The same holds for the Reductors when compared with Necron Warriors.

I've had some solid luck with them. Definitey a more clustered play style, but a lot of fun.

No wargames these days, more DM/Painting.

I paint things occasionally. Some things you may even like!

Khardor is by far going to be simpler to play, but more fun is a relative question. If you enjoy the game, they are both fun, but keep in mind that khador currently has (and probably always will have) more model/unit/jack/caster options than Convergence.

IMO, the best way to help get over the hump is to play some other armies. It does two things: Let's you learn more about how other armies play and helps you realize the grass is not always greener.

I'd choose a faction that you think you will enjoy the most. For some people it is how it plays, others it is looks. The good news is you can probably get a small army of either Khador or COC for not too much money and try them out. If you don't like them you still have a second army to use to introduce others to the game or often you can sell them to recoup some of the cost.
