I've been challenged to a game with a Tau player of 1300. In my local GW I've been told that me (ultramarine player) and this other guy (Tau player) are the best who go on Thursday nights. Big claim.. whoop

As a result, we've been pitted head to head next week. 1300 points and due to an interesting conversation... markerlights and Sternguard special issue ammunition have been banned.

I normally play with a lot of fliers and drop pods -
10 tacticals in a pod
10 tacticals in a pod
9 sternguard w/ Tigurius in a pod
3 stormtalons with skyhammers.

So far, unbeaten in many-many games.

Against Tau, with no markerlights. What do I take?
My army list is wysiwyg in the photo on the last page of my blog - a table full of models.

In addition, I'm planning on taking my Centurion - Tigurius - Stormraven bomb. i.e. Raven drops Cents with Tiggy behind it, buffing as he goes.

What should I take, in order to achieve victory?

Hmm this is a really interesting challenge... kinda makes things hard for you since everything you normally take he'll be able to counter ha! (overwatch, skyfire, etc.)

I didn't see the centurions in your army picture so I'm not sure what other models you might have available for use... but if you are still planning on using the heavy fliers and pod list some pointers would be to load out the sternguard with tons of combi-plas to alpha-strike his riptide; or if he takes skyrays, get some combi-meltas on them to combat squad them and pop as many of them as you can before your airforce arrives - once there, your talons will do some serious work.

When podding in, try to space everyone out and get within 1" of his interceptor riptide so he can't drop the pie-plate on you (because it will hit his own troops). Another good tactic would be to take something really fast (bike squads) to move and flatout to be in their face as another threat the turn the pods come in (so they have more threats to choose from). I'd also combat squad everything (if kill points aren't involved).

What other models do you have to work with?

I'm not allowed Sternguard unfortunately. Part of the game rules. I don't have any bike squads either.

All that's in the pic, plus cents and a storm raven. 1" incerceptor pie sounds like a good idea though. I'll take that on board.

Flying circus may be the way to go here. Suicide overwhelm his AA and drive around, in an annoying fashion.
