Pretty soon, I'm going to start building Orks as my second army. I like to think that I have a decent amount of experience with conversions, and I'm looking at the different units I want to use; boyz are easy, looted wagons should be fun, making a big mek looks pretty simple.

Here's my problem: mega armor.

I don't know how I want to make it.

I've been looking at conversions online, and what I've seen is either plasticard, which is beyond my grasp at the moment, too boxy for my taste, or terminator armor, and I don't want to use those.

I'm hoping you dandy folks can post either ides for converting mega armor, or pictures showing what you've made and what parts you used.

I know you said you dont like terminator armour but have you thought about using it as a base and changing it with greenstuff and orky bits?

I've considered it, but I feel like at that point, I'd have looted termy armor and not mega armor. I know they're basically the same thing, but I'm picky.

These are mine:

But I recommend Kromlechs clanking destroyers or keeping an eye out for the metals on eBay. A good conversion usually won't be cheaper than kromlech or watching the secondhand market, especially since AoBR is not plentiful with trash termites and nobs everywhere.

I had some great success making mega-nobz out of killakan boddies are just a whole boat-load of bitz from other stuff. Use the kan's body (and if you want legs) but put an ork face in instead of the front panel, you can back it if you want. Then just bitz the ever living hell out of it, bitz up some weapons / big nasty arms, ect ect.

I'll be honest, the conversions themselves are kind of sloppy and I want to re-set the faces so that they're not so obviously floating in the middle of nothing.. But it -is- pretty workable, and it's way beefier than termy armor. Unfortunately I can't get any pics up, as I'm pretty low tech and have no cameras / webcams which work with my computer, and even my phone is going on ten years old. >_>

EDIT: as the poster above me said, the Kromlech Juggernauts are also a great option. Way bigger, better looking, and even cheaper than GW's mega-nobz. Personally my MANZ consist of three of those, four converted kanz, and I'm working on a converting a marine dread for the boss.

Honestly I don't like the terminator Idea. The body is way to thin to have an Ork in it. Using the Nobs from the AoBR and adding Plasticard is to big a bulky like you have said.

Honestly I would either try to scratch build them with Plasticard or Kromlech is a good idea. Or just wait for Orks later on this year. I am pretty sure we will be seeing Mega Armored Orks in the near future.

Actually, the MANZ in termie armor is a decent idea, as nobz in either 1st or 2nd ed kind of looked similar...
