First time playing against them and I think the guy was kinda new to 40k. The inv save is taken like a normal save if the AP is higher then the base armor how I read it. The way he tried to run it was if he failed a save like a +3 for the power armor he could roll a +6 and be cool. I told him if it was a FNP or something like that he could but how I was reading it, that was not the case. I let him run it like that just to run a game. It didn't change much in how the game ended. He folded 3rd turn. I don't think that codex was vary well balanced but that a different story for a different day. Was I wrong in how I was thinking?

Page 19 More than one save section has your answer.

In short, you only get one save. You were correct.

I had a feeling. It' s cool that they get that and I told the guy it was strange for me to see a army that had some type of inv on just about every thing in it. Even the rhino gets that save. He just didn't roll a single +6

I play a lot of AS, and yes indeed, it's a simple 6+ invun save. All units get it though and it includes Adamantium will (5+ against Psyker powers)

So no, you may not 3+ then 6++...

However some notes (for the beginner player):
-The seraphim (Jump units) have a re-rollable 6++
-One of the warlord traits gives his unit and himself a 5++ (replaces their 6++)

Yeah, it's not as good as the Iron Hands' 6+ FNP which does in fact work that way (unless you're being shot at by things that will instant death you and pen armor).

IIRC you get multiple saves in WH Fantasy Battle, or at least you used to. It used to be quite a common mistake for players that just moved to 40K from fantasy.

That's both irrelevant to the thread and not true. :p

You don't get that on vehicles.
The only chapter tactic in the entire Space Marine codex that effects vehicles is Iron Hand's IWND CT

Who said anything about vehicles? Weapons have an AP value, or Armour Penetration value. Mavnas was saying that as long as the AP value was not low enough, and the Strength not high enough you get two rolls to negate the wound.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Ah, sorry.
When we (the guys in my area) say "pen armour" we mean vehicles.
I wasn't sure if that's what Mavnas meant. Also, if anyone else uses that term like that they may have took it that way too.

HappyJew,
While it is only a minor error in what you posted, and in reality it doesn't matter as long as we follow the right sequences, I feel the need to point out that AP on a weapon does not stand for Armour Penetration value. Page 50 informs us that AP in fact stands for Armour Piercing, which may have been done on purpose. For example, it could of been chosen in order to 'prevent confusion' like that Ond Angel experienced when he saw the term Armour Penetration being used in a way that didn't involve Vehicles. However given the two words are so similar and stand for an identical concepts, punching through something, it really wasn't a good job if that was the intention of the writers.

Though it could all be a fluke, that happens a lot with Game Workshop.

Derp. That is what I get for posting at work.

Do you go against work policy to do so too?

I can understand why he would think this if he was new to 40k but did play fantasy before he started 40k. In fantasy the saves stack like this, but it is off set by ward saves being much rarer and usually only available to characters.
