I don't think the blood angels would deploy there whole chapter and have only 51 survivors.
Would this ever happen?

I think it's canon, actually. I also think Blood Angels are one of those chapters that cheat with their roster size.

Yeah, that's based in a very old piece of fluff from the original board game.

The Blood Angels sent their entire chapter aboard, somehow. What the entire chapter was doing in one place at the time is anyone's guess.

Committing a full chapter is unusual but not unheard of under modern fluff.

As for if it could happen? Yes. An Astartes is worth a hundred other troops, but the God-Emperor is with them and they shall know no fear, so they fight two hundred instead. Sometimes the commander gets it right, sometimes he doesn't, and when he doesn't this is what can happen when Matt Ward isn't around to doctor the script.

I think blood angels keep higher number because of all the issues with red thirst. I'm sure death company survival rate is intentionally low.
